It started as a light snowfall and gradually became the storm that the alpha was witnessing now. Its been a long time since the man has seen weather like this. Sure, it snows every year and they've had their fair share of storms but a blizzard that completely whited out his territory was something that J hasn't seen in decades. Jason stood on the front porch, watching it come down, relieved when most of the pack slowly started to wander over to the house. Some of the town was even losing power but the pack house had generators and could sustain for at least a few days. Being here was probably best.
Jason had run patrols earlier in the day and was certain, at least for now, that his territory was secure. There was one concern on his mind, at the moment, though, and as much as he was trying to push it away, he just couldn't seem to shake his concern for the little girl that he found in the cave. Finally, J couldn't help but to heave a long sigh before stepping back into the house. "Connie?" As much as he hated to do it, as much as it made him feel like he might turn into the "bad guy," the alpha just didn't feel right about leaving the child alone in the cold. Everleigh, werewolf or not, wouldn't last a night in weather like this and he just wouldn't be able to live with himself if something were to happen to the child. "Would you please go get Everleigh and bring her back to the house? I know she won't want to come and will probably be terrified but I'd rather know she was safe and terrified here than find her as a balled up popsicle later." He knew that Connie would understand both his concern and his reaction. It was a bold move and not one he took lightly. The pack house was usually reserved for just the pack but the big guy was fairly certain that everyone would understand his reasoning in this case.

Connie sang softly to herself as she finished doing the dishes at the pack house. She'd come over at the first signs of the blizzard, wanting to be with pack instead of on her own in her big house when the power decided to go out. As a way to make everyone calm, she had decided to cook dinner. She was cleaning up the pots and pans she had dirtied as the large pot roast cooked in the oven.
She tilted her head to look out the window over the sink and couldn't help a small twinge of worry. She set down the last pot, deciding she would ask Jason if she could bring Ever here. She didn't want the child out in this storm that was brewing. The sky was hidden, and though she could feel the call of the full moon, she couldn't see it past the thickening clouds.
She turned, and jolted. Jason was there, looking as worried as she felt. Her shoulder's slumped when he brought up Ever, and a small smile flitted across her lips. "I was just coming to ask you if I could go get her," Connie said with a soft laugh. "You startled me when I turned around." She wiped her hands dry on her jeans as she glanced towards the window. "It's not snowing yet. I'll go on foot, it's only a mile. I might have to shift by the time I get there though." Her brow creased and she glanced back at Jason. "Keep an eye out for me?" She asked as she pulled on her coat and headed towards the door.
She glanced back at Jason before she walked out, and reached out to touch his cheek gently. "I know it doesn't feel like the right thing, forcing her like this, but she will thank us for it... Sometime." She smiled, and let her hand fall before she slipped out the door and started to jog as fast as she could through the snow. She could smell the oncoming storm, and worried.
It didn't take too long before she had gotten there, and she peeked inside the cave. "Everleigh?" She called in softly. "Ever, it's Connie. May I come in?"

It. Was. Cold! The little girl was absolutely frozen! Although Everleigh's lived in her little cave home for almost a year now, it was weather like this that made her wonder why she bothered. Sure, there was her fear of strangers and the even stronger fear of living the life she left when she left her human, foster care days behind, but when faced with the painful, freezing cold like this, well, it almost seemed worth it just to be warm and safe.
Thank goodness that it was a full moon and Everleigh had no control over her shift. At least that way she was warmer. Still, the little, white pup was huddled in the back of the cave, as far from the entrance as she could get. Even with her thick, all white coat of fur, the child could feel the bitter wind hitting her back. Now, at least, the snow itself seemed to have stopped for now but the wind was still horrible.
A yawn stretched the child's face as she laid her head on the cold ground, the rest of her body hidden away as she curled herself into a tight little ball. Her whole body shook but she managed to close her eyes for a few moments before hearing the voice calling her name. At first, Everleigh thought she might just be hearing things but then she recognized the voice. Lifting her head again, the pup let out a long whine, hoping Connie would hear it and come find her. There was no way in hell she was getting up and getting any closer to that cave entrance.

Jason's jacket... was providing about as much warmth as a piece of tissue paper. The shivering teen yanked the hood over his head again and buried his hands in the fabric, but still he felt like the wind and snow was sand blasting his skin raw. It wasn't fair... it wasn't fucking fair! Luk didn't have any access to the weather channel (not that he would watch it even if he did), but he assumed the weather would be clearing up the closer they got to spring. Not a damn blizzard! Lukan dug his claws into the tree, his sanctuary, and silently begged it to make the weather go away. A childish habit, but one he didn't plan to get rid of. Trees had kept him away from animals, other werewolves, and even mildly bad weather like rain... so why shouldn't it be able to stop a blizzard!? Snow snow go away, come again fucking never!
Luk's quiet pleading wasn't working; the clump of ice that just smashed into his lower back helped to pass that message along. The teen cried out and slammed his fist against the tree trunk in frustration and hatred. Hatred for whatever moron did a rain dance today! Luk shivered in the tree for about a minute longer (only to get hit by another chunk of ice) before he finally gave in and jumped down from the tree. The wind actually blew him about two feet from where he should have landed, and in the direction of the packhouse. "I get the stupid message!" Luk growled, but his voice was rather lost amongst the constant whirring of wind.
With the alpha's jacket billowing behind him, Lukan stumbled through the forest and towards the packhouse. He tried to run, but the blizzard was so blinding that he feared running into a tree. It took him nearly an hour to make it from his tree (yes, his tree) to the packhouse. When he finally reached the packhouse, his face was visibly pale and ice was sticking to his hair. Luk had never opened up the front door so fast in his life. He didn't even try making it to the couch. Rather, he curled up about five feet from the front door and shivered. Why bother walking? It was warm on the floor too! "Waaaarm..."

Connie's eagerness to fetch Everleigh didn't surprise the alpha one bit. He knew that he wasn't the only one that had felt a connection to the child. He did have to chuckle when he noticed that he started the woman, though. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." Connie had to have been worried if she didn't even hear him coming. "I knew you'd probably be thinking the same thing." Nope, he wasn't surprised one bit.
He watched as Connie tossed on her coat, smiling down at her gentle touch against his cheek. He couldn't help laying a large palm over hers for a moment with a nod. "I'll feel better once she's here." Sure, he would feel like an ass, seeing the scared little girl here and cowering but Connie was right, he was doing the right thing. He nodded firmly at her question. Of course he would watch for her. He would probably have a hard time tearing his eyes away from the windows for a while yet. There were still pack members missing from the house and Connie and Everleigh were just part of his mental stress.
Connie left in a hurry and J watched her until he couldn't see her anymore. It was only a few minutes later when Luk came rushing through the tree line. The boy was really booking it, further proof that the weird weather was taking its toll on everyone. The alpha stepped back from the door, allowing the boy to enter and couldn't help crouching down beside him when he fell to the floor. One glance told him the kid was half frozen. Jumping back to his feet, J rushed in the living room, yanked off one of the big blankets from the couch and tossed it over Luk, rubbing the kid's shoulders as best he could, trying to get him warmed up. "Why didn't you phase?" It would have at least helped him through the cold on his way to the house.

Connie was worried as she stood in the entrance to the cave. The pull of the moon was getting stronger, and she wondered if Everleigh had shifted. She thought she heard a whine, but she had no idea if it was the child or the wind. Slowly, she moved deeper into the cave and heard the whining again. It was coming from deeper in the cave, and Connie began to worry again. "Ever?" Connie called softly. She moved deeper, the cave was long and really cold. When she finally found Everleigh, her worry grew. She could see she was cold just by looking at her tiny form. She was a pretty little wolf, pure white, but far too skinny.
"Oh sweetie," Connie knelt, taking her jacket off to drape over the child. "There's going to be a blizzard. You need to come to the pack house, if you don't you'll be trapped in the cave and that isn't safe anymore." She reached out and gently rubbed her hand through the pup's cold fur. She wasn't going to give Everleigh a choice, not now. The snow could build a wall between the entrance to the cave and the outside world, and Ever would be trapped in here. That wouldn't be safe. She didn't have any food.
"I'm going to shift, okay?" Her voice was soft as she knelt in front of Ever. "It'll be easier for us to get to the pack house on four feet. The wind is picking up and soon we won't be able to get far."
Glancing back at the front of the cave, Connie quickly stripped out of her clothes. She would come back some other time to get the clothes, right now all she could think about was shifting and helping Ever get back. It would be easier in wolf form, she could provide more heat for Everleigh and could help her through deep drifts of snow by providing support with her shoulders. A sense of urgency was driving Connie to hurry, and her shift was more painful than normal as she tried to push herself. She could hear the wind picking up, and knew the snow was going to start soon.
Soon enough she was changed, and, shaking, Connie slowly got to her feet. She was a large wolf, and in contrast to Everleigh she was almost all black. She snorted, shaking out her dark fur. How could the child stand the cold out here? It was even frigid in her wolf form.
Turning, Connie let her mouth drop open and her tongue loll out at Ever in a wolfish grin, and she went over and nudged her to get up, move. She whined softly as she licked Ever's muzzle, trying to tell her it would be okay with her body language since wolves couldn't talk. She glanced towards the cave entrance and huffed again. White steam rose from her nostrils. Starting forward, she headed towards the entrance. She could see little white fluffs of snow as they started to fall from the sky. She glanced back, and waited for Everleigh to follow her.

And that was what the kid was afraid of. Connie was there to tell her that she had to get to the pack house. Yes, the child was frozen but still the idea of being surrounded by strangers and trapped by a blizzard had her petrified. The little puppy looked up at the woman, though, and couldn't miss the sheer anxiety in her eyes. Connie was worried about Ever and that was what decided it for her. The child didn't have a choice. She had to go, if for no other reason than to help ease the panic in the nice lady. With a whine of protest, the child stood, careful not to knock the jacket off of her as she did. It was marginally warmer with the coat on.
Connie phased and Ever couldn't help but notice that it had to be a painful shift, especially forcing it the way that the lady had. Ever gave an involuntary cringe of sympathy before her head lifted to see the big, almost-black wolf before her. Connie was a pretty wolf and her gentle coaxing was easing the kid's fears a little...at least until the pup got to the mouth of the cave. How would they ever make it back to the pack house in that? And the snow was coming back. Brilliant.
With another whimper, as if to ask if they really had to go, Everleigh finally forced herself over the threshold of the cave and pushed herself to start sprinting. If they had to go, she at least wanted the journey to be as quick as possible. This was gonna suck!

The warm packhouse air rushed against Lukan's face and warmed his body... slowly. Very slowly. He was still shivering by the time Jason began to fuss over him. Lukan started to swat away J's hands, but quickly stopped when he realized how warm the other was. He shivered and wiggled closer to Jason, burying his face in the blanket he now held. The ice in his hair slowly started to melt and drip down Lukan's forehead, not that he noticed. Everything felt cold, regardless if it was water or not.
Jason's question brought a puzzled expression to Lukan's face. "Phase?" His eyebrows drew down as a scowl curved his lips. The cold was so numbing that Luk could barely climb a tree, let alone think clearly. Now that the idea had finally become apparent to Luk... well, he was pissed. He might have even been able to stay outside if he'd shifted! "Sonuvabitch!" He growled and thrust his face back into the blanket, clearly upset over the matter. Lukan continued up his growls and snarls (even though his voice was wavering from the cold) as he tightened the blanket around him.

Luk could keep swatting at J all he wanted to but J was helping the kid and that was that. As the boy's protests died away, J couldn't help holding the kid close, figuring that J's own body heat would help Luk that much faster. The alpha kept the blanket tight around the frozen boy, letting him defrost. Of course, it took a moment for J's question to register. Cold like this was mind numbing. J didn't worry too much about that. He did relax a bit more, though when Luk answered him. At least the boy could still talk and his brain was starting to function again.
And the kid's outburst didn't surprise J either. It didn't piss him off as it normally would. Not that he wanted the boy to think that he could make a habit of it or anything but considering the circumstances, he could let that go. Luk was starting to freak out a bit, though and revert to his usually response which was anger. "Hey, don't worry about it. Cold like that doesn't really leave you thinking as you normally would." Though it was strange that Luk didn't just automatically phase anyway. He knew the kid hasn't been a wolf all that long and even with practice, Luk would still have had a hard time fighting the impulse. That was just strange, as far as J was concerned.

Connie pressed against Ever as she followed, nuzzling against the child to comfort her. She could tell that she was afraid to go to the pack house, but would come anyway. She hoped that her presence there would help, and Jason too. Thinking back, Connie thought that when she had left, only Jason had been at the house anyway. She hoped some others had arrived though, then Jason wouldn't worry so much.
As Ever started to run, Connie picked up speed too. She lead the way, but the snow was hard to press through and the path she had made earlier was swept away by the wind.
Something was wrong. Connie let out a bark as she stumbled. Pain shifted through her. She shook, standing stock still as she looked at Everleigh. Pain rippled again, and Connie fell, twitching. What was going on? Why was there pain?
Whining, Connie curled up into a black ball of fur as her body began to shift yet again. It was way too soon, and she groaned. Her fur retreated, and she was laying naked in the snow, not quiet shifted yet. "E- Ever?" Connie choked out as her body kept shifting. She tried to fight it, tried hard, but the harder she tried, the more it hurt. Finally, she stopped trying to fight it, and the pain lessened, and was replaced by numbing cold.
She couldn't hear anything. She could, but it was... Muffled somehow. Panic skittered along her spine as she slowly stood. The wind was somehow colder than it was before, and the snow made her feet start to go numb. She wrapped her arms around her body, shaking hard as she tried to contain her panic. Ever. She had to find Ever. She sniffed, but she couldn't smell anything. Her sight seemed dim as well, and panic set in full force.

They hadn't gotten that far when Connie went down. The pack house wasn't even in view yet. Everleigh just kept sprinting for a while, though, not even aware that the other wolf with her wasn't there. It was only when the effects of the eclipse hit Ever that she slowed down at all. Instantly, the child face-planted in the snow with a shriek of pain. What the heck?! She's never shifted back during a full moon, not ever and the pain of the sudden transformation was horrible. All the child could do was scream as she lay helpless in the snow. To top it off, she was freezing and the world around her seemed to be pulling away.
Was she passing out? Could be. She was in so much pain that she guessed it was possible. But the longer she laid there and remained conscious the more she realized that wasn't it. So what was happening? Another scream wretched from the little girl's throat as she tried to move. Vaguely now, she was remembering that Connie was out there somewhere, too. With all the snow falling around her and the loss of her super wolf senses, though, Everleigh had no idea where the woman could be. "Connie!!" She screamed in desperation, hoping beyond hope that, somehow, Everleigh herself would be the only one affected and Connie would be able to find her. The more time that passed, though, the more the child feared she would freeze to death first.

Lukan's lips quivered from the cold and caused him to fumble over his words. "S-still sucks!" He spat before resorting back to his mixture of snarls and growls. And like Jason had recently mentioned, Luk's brain still wasn't working properly. The question hadn't even occurred to him: why wasn't he forced to shift? He should have shifted days ago, yet he never felt its effects. Not once has the moon felt heavy on his body. No pricking, no grinding bones, nothing. And the anger Luk was feeling now... well that was just Lukan behavior on a daily basis. As the warmth seeped into Lukan's body, so did a frightening realization. His chin lifted up and his eyes, still blue and human, met Jason's. "Why haven't I shifted..."
The very second the question slipped from the teen's mouth, he felt... drained. And cold... colder than he ever could remember. Where was the warmth going? Lukan's lips parted then closed like a fish. He clutched the blanket with terror and whined. Where was the warmth going? Werewolves were born with a naturally higher body temperature, and right now... it was gone. The lunar eclipse, unbeknownst to Lukan, had snatched the warmth away and much more than that.
His sight, his hearing, his sense of smell... what was happening? Everything suddenly fell from high definition to low, and sent Luk's heart racing. He scratched with his nails, so blunt and so human, against his body, so human. Everything was human and dull. Human. The word hit his mind like a thunderclap and struck terror through his heart. Amongst that thought there came another, one more frightening than the last; Amaguk had played a cruel trick on him. Lukan's breath came in short gasps as the thought further developed. Maybe Am had intended to fool him all along... it was all a game. Toying with his heart was just a game! And somehow.. somehow he'd made his werewolf dream only temporary.
Lukan's voice burst from him like water through a broken damn. Or rather, his howl did. His weak, pitiful howl. "He played me!!" Luk screamed again and wrenched himself free of Jason. He clutched at the ground and pressed his forehead into the wood. Luk's cries continued without mercy. "He played me he played me!"

Jason had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on. And he was feeling it now, too. Everything was dimming. His heat, his strength, his sight and hearing...it all seemed to be slipping away. Luk was even able to fight his way free of the alpha's grasp. That shouldn't have been possible without considerable effort. What the hell is happening?!
In the face of Luk's terror, J was trying to keep it together, he really was but when the boy...his boy, for all intents and purposes, was screaming and scared like he was, well, J as having a hard time not panicking. "Who played you, Luk?" He tried to cradle the kid against him again, but was having a harder time than normal easing the boy back up to a sitting position. And he couldn't fathom, for the life of him, who Luk was referring to and why. "Calm down, Luk. Its ok. No one is going to get you." J would do what he could to try and calm the kid and keep him together but, right now, J wasn't really himself either.
Vaguely, Jason remembered an experience similar to this, years ago now. An eclipse hit the small town he grew up in and similar effects happened there, as well. Could it be that simple? Was it just another passing eclipse that rendered them helpless? "Its an eclipse, I think, Luk. They happen and don't last long. It'll pass." He was trying to convince himself now, too, though.
Then it dawned on him again that Connie and Everleigh were out in this, as well, and probably in the same condition. Torn, J looked from Luk to the pack house door and back again. He had absolutely no idea what to do now. He's never been in this position in quite this way before.

Connie stumbled in the snow. She could hear Everleigh screaming her name despite the howl of the wind. Her whole being was focused on finding her, despite the cold that chilled her to the bone. On any other day, Connie wouldn't have minded her nakedness. Being a werewolf, it was hard for her to keep a hold of any modesty she may have had. But now, today, the cold was sharper than normal, and she thought her feet were going to start bleeding from the cold soon. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she gave up any attempt at staying warm as she followed the tracks Everleigh had made in her rush to get to the warmth of the house.
"Ever!" Connie sobbed as she found the child in the snow. Bending, Connie scooped her up into her arms and out of the snow. She tried to stand, but stumbled. She managed to keep her feet, and stood still for a moment, trying to find her balance. "Hang on honey. Hang on," She tried to be soothing, but her chilled naked body was shaking and her heart raced. Panic was close on her heels as she held Ever close, she was so light even without Connie's werewolf strength, but still, Connie stumbled a couple of times. The cold was starting to get to her, and she felt her strength ebbing too fast for her to feel safe.
Finally, though, she saw the lights from the pack house. Sobbing, Connie stumbled, clutching Ever close to her. "Jason!" She managed to raise her voice above the wind, screaming for her alpha. She tripped, but managed to fall only to her knees so she wouldn't squish Everleigh. She struggled to stand again, but her legs wouldn't work. "Jason!" She looked down at Ever, panicked. "Can you move?" She whispered to the child. "I- I'm too cold. I can't stand and I don't know if Jason can hear me. You need to get him, Ever. Get him for me, okay?"

It seemed like an eternity passed before Connie finally found the child in the snow. By that time, the poor little girl almost couldn't move at all. She couldn't help the whimper that escaped her as Connie lifted her off the frozen ground. Her whole body was so stiff and sore from the bitter weather that the child was in physical pain.
Connie was holding her close, trying to move and get them both to safety but was having an increasingly difficult time of it. It was almost as if the woman was in the exact same boat as Everleigh was. That idea was just too much to take, The little girl was in tears now, clinging to Connie as the woman rushed, as fast as she could, to the pack house. They stumbled and they fell. For a while, Ever was afraid they both might not make it before frostbite or pneumonia set in. It was a tremendous relief when the lights of the house came into view.
It was then, however, that Connie really started to lose control of her legs and fell, unable to get back up. The woman was screaming for Jason but there was no response. The child looked up at Connie, realizing at the same moment as the woman that Jason couldn't hear them. This was all very, very wrong! With a nod of determination, even through her frozen tears, Everleigh shrieked in pain, falling out of Connie's arms and rushing as fast as she could to the door of the pack house. She actually wasn't very fast at all but was screaming for Jason every step of the way, forcing herself to the porch and up the stairs. It was only when she was at the door itself that she collapsed, too cold and in too much pain to move now. Still, with her last breath she screamed the alpha's name one more time before the child lost consciousness all together.
