Rufus pulled the cooler over the tree roots and carefully hoisted himself on top. In his hands sat a speaker just small enough for Ruf to carry. Now where he wanted to put it... maybe it wasn't quite small enough for that. The teen brought his eyes up to a thick cluster of tree branches about a foot above his head. Large or not, Rufus was going to attempt to lug this damn speaker up into the tree anyway! He was, like his father, quite the stubborn bastard when it came to his parties. For some reason he figured that an awesome forest party wouldn't be complete without speakers hanging from the trees. Now Rufus knew very little about electronics, but he had an Ipod and some speakers he could hook up to it... what else did he need? Maybe a little more muscle? Well Ruf had tried to convince some of his friends to help him with the set up, but they'd all come up with the same crazy answer; don't go into the forest on the full moon. The hell? This town really took their superstitions seriously. Rufus was deterred though. He figured he'd set the speakers up, and by the time he'd finished then his friends would finally stop acting so insane. It was a Rufus party after all. You don't just miss those.
Ruf adjusted the speaker in his arms then started to push it up into the tree. His muscles strained as a grimace passed over his usual smiling face. Fucking. Heavy. He could barely think of anything else, but eventually he'd settled it in the tree and fastened it with a bungee cord. Rufus had only put up one speaker out of the three he brought, and he was already bordering on tired. The teen wiped the sweat from his brow and looked at the other speakers. "Ugh..." He huffed and ran a hand through his floppy hair. "Later." Rufus instead moved to hang some lanterns from the trees and set out flash lights on the two fold out tables he'd wheeled out. It was only four pm right now, but Ruf intended to finish setting up by six. Then the party could go on until the wee hours of the morning. Ruf wasn't stupid enough to think all his friends could magically see in the dark. They weren't wolves or anything.
As Rufus worked, he started humming a cheerful tune in order to keep himself from getting bored. Within minutes this humming had changed into full out... singing, if you could call it that. Ruf wasn't the best at singing to tell the truth. In fact, he sucked at it. But a bad voice wasn't going to stop Ruf from having a little fun. "If you're feeling cleeean and sober, you can invite me over! Recovery we're on our way... take you to the church, kneel down and praaay!" Rufus slapped a few glow sticks down on the table and swung one around his wrist as he danced to his own rhythm. He resorted back to humming for a few seconds as he couldn't quite remember the lyrics, but soon enough he was back to belting out the song. "I'm a shape shifter when I'm in love! I'm a great kisser when he's the one..." The teen started dancing around, looking like an absolute idiot but not caring if he did. He didn't have anything to worry about. Not a thing in the world.

Collin had been missing from his home, attended none of his classes, and no one had seen him in a week. This however was normal. Despite his age and the fact he was a born werewolf Collin hadn't started shifting until he was sixteen, a good year or two later than most of his friends, which meant he was as uncontrolled as most of the younger teens in the pack, preventing him from holding down a job and requiring a good few pack members to make excuses on his account. This month he had the flu, he'd sent Rufus a lame half confused text about that and hadn't heard from anyone human since, which stood to reason as he had no thumbs. Though in his current state he wouldn't have had the patience to use the phone even had he been able.
Many of the wolves were frustrated around this time of the month, wanting to hold to their human forms longer, and a lot of that would be expressed in aggression, but Collin tended to process the moon a little differently, it made him a ball of pure energy. He didn't doze or rest much, he was either eating, sleeping or running around, there was little space for anything in between around the full moon, and already he'd been kicked out of the pack house twice this month for fear what he might do to the furniture. Having spent a day pulling out of Lukan, and a few brave moments bothering even Jason it now fell to Cayden to entertain him.
Having no patience for just watching TV and eating what had been caught before he was out in the woods, racing between the trees at a dizzying speed, almost crashing into them twice. His prey was a slippery one, one who always liked to twist and turn to throw him off course, but that was a very difficult thing to do, because on the full moon Collin was damned near impossible to tire out. He was close now, just shy of pouncing on his friends back when he heard a voice shouting about shapeshifters through the woods. Hard to tire, yes, but very easy to distract.
Skidding to a stop be barked at Cayden. Bright lights! He wanted to check out the bright lights. Find out what was on his territory, and whatever it was sounded like fun. Not to mention that voice sounded familiar. He missed that voice over the last week. Hyper and dumb, two apt words for describing a Collin on the full moon, and without so much as a thought for his personal safety, or that of anyone around him, he was bolting toward the shiny lights and the music he didn't really like, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth, panting hard but now set on his path.

He'd spent the morning thinking up new excuses for why he wasn't in class today while pacing around the flat he shared with Collin, while trying not to knock things over with his tail. A tiny little place like that wasn't designed for giant wolves, especially one like Collin who acted like he was on cocaine every full moon. At least Cayden didn't freak out like that. Get pissed off, yes, but he didn't bounce off the walls. That was the only reason he was still inside. Luckily, Collin had been missing in action recently which let Cayden stew in relative peace. For awhile. He knew he should have stayed inside, but he was feeling cooped up and wanted to stretch his legs. It would figure that Collin would find him. And Cayden knew what happened every full moon when Collin found him.
Paws tearing up the loose soil, Cayden's breath came in pants, his tongue hanging half out of his mouth as he ran. Why did Collin have to be so damn fast? Wasn't there any justice in the universe? Why couldn't the guy who liked to chase everything be slow enough for his victims to get away from him? Of course not. The universe wasn't that forgiving. Cayden, who hated being chased, was the slow one. That just meant he had to make up for it with agility. He turned on a dime right in front of a tree and watched Collin nearly crash into it. Not quite, though. Still, it bought him a bit of time that he wasn't getting his tail nipped at. What he was really looking for was some brambles or a ledge, maybe a rock formation he could lose Collin in. That would suit him just fine. Collin wasn't a climber.
Out of the corner of his eye, Cayden caught sight of just the thing he was looking for. It was a small den and the entrance was mostly hidden by underbrush. If he took the corner just right, he might get Collin to run right into the thing. Not that he'd stay there, but it was probably a more effective deterrant than trying to run the guy into a tree. Again. Just as he turned toward the den, he heard Collin skid to a stop. Cayden stopped reflexively. Nothing stopped Collin once he got going. What was going on? With a bark, Collin was off in another direction and that's when Cayden heard the singing. Singing? In the middle of the forest? Immediately, Cayden was furious. Stupid fucking humans. Normally he interacted with humans quite well, but this was a full moon and he didn't give one shit about hurting some dumbass if they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Without a second thought, Cayden took off after Collin. The singing got louder and he was able to recognize the voice. Rufus. This wasn't going to be good at all. Collin probably wouldn't hurt the guy, but Cayden would. What the hell was he thinking being out in the woods on a full moon? Obviously, Rufus didn't believe in werewolves, but this was just pure idiocy. If he didn't have a death wish, he would have one when Cayden got done gnawing his leg off to a stump. The lights and Collin's furry backside led the way toward Rufus and the music, enough that Cayden could see the idiot human trying to dance. He veered away from Collin to come in the other direction, falling into familiar hunting patterns without really thinking about what he was doing. He was running on instinct and fury. A bad combination for Collin's boyfriend. |

"I'm a game changer, cause love is my fix!" The teenager did a little turn to the right along with a roll of the shoulders. He was going to lose himself in his own bad music. Well, rather the forest than the middle of the street, yeah? Nothing dangerous out here or anything! Completely oblivious to the nearing danger that was a shifted Cayden, the teenager jumped up onto the table and whipped his hair around. Unlit glow sticks scattered everywhere, but the boy didn't care. He could always pick those up later. Ruf didn't want to interrupt the beat! "I'm a shape shifter! Fuck yeah!" There was a bit of ad libbing there. At this state though, the dancing teenager was lucky to remember any of the lyrics.
Rufus sang until his voice cracked, which didn't take that long. He was by no means a great singer... good singer... okay, he really sucked. But, the boy would have picked up another song to go with his dancing had he not heard a sudden rustling off to his side. Still kneeling on the table, Ruf looked towards the sound with a raised eyebrow and lock of hair cast over one eye. "Wha-?" He craned his neck to see better and suddenly frowned. "Holy shit..." He saw black fur. He saw it. Scarier thing was, it was pretty high off the ground. The second those eyes came into view, Ruf was on the ground with a table flipped over on him. It was supposed to be a barricade, but no, something to squish him into the ground worked too. Rufus grabbed for a glow stick and held it with an iron grip. Did he really think he had a weapon? Who bludgeons an enemy over the head with a glow stick!?
Rufy, with the table still pressing his stomach against the ground, struggled to think of some other technique for scaring off wild animals. At summer camp he'd learned something... sound like a mountain lion. "Ugh... RAWR!?" He cursed himself in frustration. "Sonuva- ... I'm a mountain lion! Fuck off!" With his survival techniques turning into a total bust, Ruf's voice nearly trembled. He wasn't trying to goof around. He was just panicking. That thing... animal thing, was huge! It was probably best for the kid's heart that he had yet to see Cayden prowling about.

Speed had been Collin's greatest ally since he'd started shifting. As a human he was nothing spectacular next to the other wolves, but fully shifted he was like a bullet. Which likely accounted for the numerous bruises and bloody noses over the years from running straight into stationary projectiles, Aka: trees, or the occasional big rock...and that one wall. He was one of the fastest members of the pack, which plagued most of them, but added to his head start in the running he reached Rufus in record time, bursting through the bushes and into the small clearing, taking a moment to bark at the lights.
Feels a sense of pride for actually finding something, okay so it smelled strong, and was all lit up, but it still counted as a find, and Collin had a pretty poor tracking record. The lights were almost enough to distract him but Rufus just has to start making noise. Collin bared his teeth and growled back at the other. See? that's how it's done. With his teaching for the day done he bounded over to the other, standing over him and shoved his nose right into Rufus's face, gave him a polite sniff and licked the other with a happy whine.
The danger with Collin, unlike Cayden was not that he was liable to attack the other and bite him, but he got a little excitable, and when playing with a toy whose head was roughly the same size as your paws it was easy to...break said toy. Luckily before poor Rufus could be mauled by a good pawing Cayden jumped into the picture, stealing the others attention, Collin standing over his Rufus with his tail wagging and a happy face. "Lookit! I found my Rufus". Without so much as taking into account Cayden's history with aggression in light of the full moon he turned his attention back to trying to nuzzle and lick the unfortunate Rufus.

He was practically crawling on his belly by the time he got opposite of Collin. For a moment, he just crouched down and watched, letting his anger boil. What was this stupid human doing out here? This was his territory, especially this time of month. He was mostly glad that Converse natives believed in werewolves. It kept stupid shit like this from happening. It kept fragile human bodies away from poisonous werewolf teeth. It didn't look like Collin was too anxious to use those teeth, though. He bounded up to Rufus without a care in the world and stood over the terrified human like he was staking a claim or something.
Cayden stayed where he was, not knowing if he was going to attack or not. His mind was torn. On one hand, his rational mind told him to protect Rufus from Collin. His loyalty to his pack told him to protect Collin from Rufus. His innate rage told him to end Rufus and be done with it. He took a couple steps forward, growled, then stopped. Shaking his head, he stepped forward again, this time with a whine. Collin growled at Rufus's terrified rambling, and Cayden sprang into the area by reflex. He found Rufus pinned by a table and Collin. He didn't take the time to notice Collin's happy face. As soon as the other wolf leaned down toward Rufus's face, Cayden sprang at the black wolf with surprising force. Collin might be faster, but Cayden was stronger.
It only took a split second for rationality to win out over anger. He wasn't in the habit of hurting people and just because Rufus was dumber than a box of rocks didn't mean he had a death sentence. It only occurred to him after he lunged that Collin wasn't really aggressive on the full moon. He was probably only wanting to play. To late to change course now. At least his attention was diverted and Rufus was out of immediate danger. He'd apologize later. Maybe. He might just call it payback for getting his ass chased halfway to Whitebridge and back every month. |

Collin's sudden growl sent the boy creeping backwards under the table, which wasn't providing much pressure in the first place. He was going to get eaten. The teen had his doubts before, but the animal (which is how Rufus saw the giant furry Collin at the moment) just growled at him? As far as he was concerned, the next step was for the other to take a nice chunk of flesh out of his leg. He might have attempted to run off had he not seen Collin's speedy entrance. This creature, whatever it was, ran faster than anything Rufus had seen. He'd witnessed a few coyotes and wolves in his lifetime, mostly through visits to the zoo and while living in the more back country states, and they did not run that fast. Though with his heart pumping blood into his ears, Rufus was in no state to match this terrifying occurrence to Converse folklore.
Mr. Optimist's eyes widened fearfully when Collin moved closer. He should have been screaming bloody murder in the hopes that some well armed.. hiker, would save him, but there was something almost comical about his seemingly upcoming death. Killed by a giant wolf that looked like the size of a small car. Rufus wondered what they would put in his obituary. Probably something more generic, like mauled by large animal.. or bear. But it was an interesting thought. How many other people were killed by this giant ass wolf? Did they have inaccurate obituaries too? He sure was thinking a lot considering the situation, but it would seem strange for the kid who hardly ever shut up to not at least ramble in his mind. And then, Collin licked him. Tasted him. His mind shut off and his mouth started. "DON'T EAT ME!"
Cayden, who Ruf had not noticed until now, suddenly sprang into the well lit area and collided with Collin. They looked nothing short of furry freight trains. Rufus jolted underneath his table prison and bonked his head against the top. He winced but didn't think much of it. The teen was far more focused on the wolves seemingly fighting over their prey.

Of course Collin was staking a claim. As far as he was concerned Rufus was his, sure Rufus might not agree but Collin could he a possessive bastard given half a chance. Collin knew Rufus, he spent most of his time with the guy, and Rufus carried heavy traces of his own scent, thus, his. Collin eyed the table as the other tried to creep back under it looked a little confused, his brain taking a lot longer to catch up with him, it wasn't that he was dumb, but between the latent anger he fought continually through the full moon by running around, jumping on things, and everything physical that didn't include violence, he also tended to run far more on instinct on the full moon than he did at other times of the month. Compared to his peers Collin was master of repressing anger and managing to ignore every such instinct, but not so much when it came to his other instincts, and right then his brain was telling him he wanted to play. For other wolves this would probably manifest in the form of dominance battles or through being territorial, but Collin played instead, which basically was a way he could prove himself without giving into anger and violence, it was either one or the other, and playing, though annoying, resulted in fewer dismembered limbs.
When Rufus dived for the table, Colin was about to dig his paws into the dirt, bat away the table, and try to pin Rufus and make him his new toy. If anything Cayden was right to tackle him, Collin might not have had any ill intentions at heart, but Rufus was a tiny human, and it was no secret to anyone who'd involved themselves in Collin's games that he didn't always know his own strength. One minute it was all wagging tails and pawing, the next Rufus was a bloodstain in the dirt.
With a loud yelp Collin was on his back, in the dirt. As always he struggled under the guy, trying to turn him over or wriggle away but fighting was far from his strong suit. With a low whine when he could hardly move his shoulders he accepted his defeat, staring up at Cayden sadly. He hated losing, but he had long since accepted that Cayden held a higher rank, now, had it been a Tau or a stray he would not be so quick to give in. Craning his head upward he licked the underside of Cayden's muzzle "You win? See?"
The moment Rufus piped up again Collin looked over and growled, offended. He wouldn't eat the guy, Rufus didn't look anything like a rabbit. But even Collin could start to make out the fear in the other and let out a soft whine before wagging his tail, or trying to but with Cayden ontop of him all he could do was scrape it across the ground, looking akin to an oversized dog waiting for someone to throw a ball. It wasn't long before he was pawing at Cayden and trying to wriggle his way over to his new Rufus chew toy. Notes: - sorry this may be my worst post to date, but I really wanted to get something down xD

Rufus should be glad Cayden didn't decide to do just that. Collin would just maul him. Cayden still had a part of him that was deadly furious at Rufus for putting him in this situation in the first place. These were his woods. His territory. His time of the month to be himself. The instinctual side of him wanted to rip Rufus limb from limb for disturbing that. He'd made his choice, though, and had launched himself at Collin instead. Way before he'd started shifting, his parents had drilled into him the importance of making decisions based on reason rather than gut instinct, especially on the full moon. Werewolves weren't the evil creatures humans believed them to be, and he wasn't about to hurt Rufus or let Collin hurt Rufus no matter how much he wanted to.
He slammed into Collin before the poor guy knew what was coming. The impact jarred him, but he managed to keep them from rolling by rocking his weight back. He landed on top of Collin with a huff, wondering why the hell he was playing peace-keeper. Collin squirmed and tried to get free, but Cayden knew he wasn't a fighter. He could be, but he'd chosen to walk a different path. A path that, in Cayden's opinion, was going to make the poor guy explode some day. So Cayden simply used his bodyweight to his advantage, laying down on the squirming black lump of fur until it stopped moving.
It didn't take Collin long to admit defeat. Of course, then he was ready to go play with his Rufus-smelling chew toy. That still wouldn't end well. Cayden eased off Collin just a little, but only to snap his teeth in Collin's face as a warning. He knew it was hard for the guy to calm down during a full moon, but his hyperactivity was going to get his boyfriend killed. Only after Cayden was sure Collin was under some erratic type of control did he stand up completely, but he kept himself between the psycho wolf and the stupid human. His eyes turned toward Rufus, an angry glare. He bared his teeth at him, too, letting out a growl that should have made him piss his pants. Very deliberately, he walked up to Rufus but kept an ear turned toward Collin and any shenanigans he might be up to. He used his shoulder to move the table off the guy, and resigned himself to stand guard until Collin stopped being an idiot. |

Rufus watched with little relief as Cayden wrestled Collin to the ground. To his eyes, those two wolves weren't Cayden and Collin, they weren't even people. They were wolves. Animals. Perhaps once he calmed down enough he would think more about why these wolves were so... gigantic. But right now, they looked like nothing more than hungry creatures. Very big, hungry creatures. As Cayden took a step towards him, Rufus found himself fumbling for his lighter. He wasn't in the mood for a smoke though. Quite frankly, he didn't think he had enough time for more than a single drag. He set the flame flickering anyway and held his arm out about a foot in front of him. It was a stupid idea, but as far as last stitch efforts go, it was better than running. The very thought of setting an animal on fire made Ruf's blood curdle, but he had his family in mind now.
The more steps Cayden took, the less hopeless Rufus became. He didn't want to resign himself to death anymore. His brother... his eight year old brother couldn't lose him, neither could his parents. Rufus was determined now to not let his death become a late welcome home present for his father. "Stay back... I really mean it!" Rufus grit his teeth nervously as his knuckles grew white from holding the lighter. He was no match for someone like Cayden or Collin, especially not in this form. "Just stay back.." His voice started to grow a little weaker as Cayden continued to move forward. He still held onto the lighter, but that once bold expression was weakening. By the time Cayden touched the table, Rufus no longer had the confidence to strike out with the lighter, and let it snap closed. His breath quivered in his throat as he stared up at Cayden. The distraught teen clenched his fists in his hair and murmured quiet apologies, not to the werewolves, but to his family.

The moment he felt Cayden give so much as an inch he was wriggling like a worm in the sun to get out form under him, pawing the dirt and doing everything he could to kick Cayden off him so he could run around again. Sitting still was downright out of the question. Even when the other was sitting on him he was twitching like crazy, not to annoy Cayden, but he was honestly unable to help it. For Collin to sit still on the full moon is like someone drinking two whole cans of redbull and trying to sleep, it's restless, uncomfortable and just not going to happen. With a low whine Collin stopped moving as much as he could when Cayden snapped at him, dropping his gaze, and lightly started to paw the other's muzzle until he was let up.
There might as well have been a spring underneath him with how quick he was to hop to his feet, darting back and forth, pacing the length of the invisible line Cayden had drawn in the dirt between himself and Rufus. He wanted to get closer to the other, to drag them both into some form of rough housing.
For a time he actually behaved, albeit unable to sit still throughout, he kept his distance from the Rufus shaped chew toy watching Cayden slowly approach. But there was something about the way Cayden held himself he didn't like that was just starting to break though his thick moon protected skull, that Cayden was watching Rufus as though he were a rabbit in a hunt. Giving a low whine followed by a bark he tried to catch the others attention, maybe even convince him to, you know, back off a little, but once Cayden was growling any ideas Collin had about staying back were forgotten.
Darting forward he nipped at Cayden's shoulder and headbutted him, not enough to hurt the guy, but it would get his attention. No hurting Rufus. At least Collin knew that much, though where Cayden may do it on purpose Collin was just as liable to hurt the guy by accident, making Cayden the safer choice if only because he was aware of what he did. Still though, Collin felt somewhat protective over Rufus, even if Cayden was dominant he felt he had to do something about it. Though where he was protective over Rufus he was very much so when it came to his pack. Slamming a paw down on Rufus's wrist the moment the lighter struck he bowed his head over the small metalic object and started barking angrily at it, half forgetting you couldn't scare a lighter into not working. That bad lighter should feel ashamed of itself!
Whining he tried to shove his nose up against Rufus's cheek before Cayden could intervene. He wanted the other to stop acting weird, it was just him and Cayden, nothing to be scared of and threaten with lighters.

Cayden could practically feel Collin breathing down the back of his neck, so to speak. He knew he was being irrational. He knew that one wrong move and he could seriously hurt Rufus. He knew his anger was because of the full moon and not because Rufus had done anything horribly wrong. The problem was that when he got mad, it wasn't just a "fuck off, dude" kind of mad. It was a murderous, beyond words kind of mad. He dimly heard Collin whining and barking behind him, but he was focused on the human in front of him. The human waving a lighter at him as if that would protect him if Cayden really wanted to kill the guy.
Collin finally ignored what little restraint he'd been showing and went about trying to talk sense into Rufus's lighter. Cayden ignored him. He wasn't hurting anything, and he was still focused on Rufus. Then the guy started to break down. That's what really got through to Cayden. Rufus was apologizing to his family. Abruptly, Cayden remembered what it felt like to lose someone and he wouldn't be a part of making someone else feel that way, even someone he hadn't met. Breathing hard, Cayden took one step back, then another. He didn't move away completely, though, in case Collin decided to be completely obnoxious.
As it turned out, Collin only wanted to be slightly obnoxious by nosing Rufus. Very carefully, Cayden took his paw and nudged Collin's leg with it before Rufus got his wrist broken. Stepping on humans was a bad idea. So was killing them or scaring them until they were blubbering like a child, but Cayden ignored that part. He hadn't actually hurt Rufus, so it was all good. Feeling more in control of himself, he laid down a couple feet from Rufus's legs, wondering what the hell he was going to do now. Rufus would surely talk about the two giant wolves who'd tried to kill him in the woods. Rumors would start flaring up again. Yep, Jason was going to kill him. That's all there was to it. He let out a soft whine and laid his head on his paws. |

The second Collin's paw slammed down on his wrist, Rufus swore he heard his heart slam against his rib cage then stop beating. His fingers trembled and dug into the dirt as his eyes met Collin's. Those gold... inhuman eyes. He grit his teeth and shuddered. The teen was certain he was going to die, but all this toying was too cruel... it was angering him. He glared up at the two with a look of pained annoyance. Rufus had just started to utter furious curses, something pretty out of character for him, when Collin shoved his cold wet nose against his cheek. The anger fell away from his face and in it's place came shock. Why was.... why in the hell was he nosing him? He let out another shaky breath as he spoke. "Why aren't you eating me already..." A low whine erupted in his throat and he set his head down in defeat. All of this was too mentally and emotionally exhausting. First he thought he was going to die, then he thought he could make a stand, and now he was getting nuzzled by this supposed predator. He didn't know what to feel... other than confused.
And he stayed confused for at least a minute.. but then things slowly started to click. Ruf's brow furrowed and mouth opened. Could they... no, no that's ridiculous. His eyes met Collin's and Cay's again. The teen grunted quietly and turned his gaze towards the ground as he replayed the past few terrifying minutes in his head. These wolves were giant, had yet to tear out his jugular, weren't circling, had known the lighter wasn't some toy, and now one of them was nosing his cheek. He should have been dead by now. If these were real wolves... he should have died. Another scene played back in his head, one from a bar. It was about a month ago that he went down to Mav's with a friend and overheard a hunter's conversation. "I swear it was this big!" He said, with seemingly exaggerated movements. He kept going on about a werewolf almost as tall as him. A werewolf for Christ's sake. Ruf's eyes fell on Collin again, who roughly met the guy's description of said werewolf's height. "... Ohmygod."
He stared up at the two weres with his mouth slightly open. His blue eyes had never been wider, and his face never more dumbstruck. "You're people..." The teen's voice was kept quiet, as if he was afraid someone would immediately call him crazy. Sure he was pretty outlandish to begin with, and normally he didn't give a shit, but this was... this was calling someone a werewolf! That didn't happen a lot for Rufus. He swallowed and spoke up a little louder. "You're werewolves... right?" He cringed somewhat and shrunk back, as if he expected one of the wolves to answer with a snap of his jaws.

Having nearly forgotten that Rufus was actually very breakable it took him a few moments before the reason Cayden was nudging him occurred to the large black creature. Slowly he lifted it up off of the other and watched him shudder with confusion. Why was Rufus scared of him? It was a stupid question, he knew why, he just didn't want to admit to it. Being a little nervous was one thing, but Rufus seemed damn near horrified. Was it that hard for humans to stomach? If it was then maybe this relationship he had with Rufus wouldn't work, after all, this wasn't something a man like Collin could hide for very long, and it was so integral to who he was that even a mutual understanding that they never speak about it wouldn't suffice. Laying down right next to Rufus he let out a low whine at the others question. He'd never eat someone, hell, half the time Collin felt guilty for eating deer or rabbit. Shuffling just a little closer so his nose was just a few millimetres from the other, he licked Rufus's cheek watching the other lower his head.
Ears drooping he looked to Cayden for answers. Why would Rufus think they'd eat him? Despite the new form When Rufus finally looked up again Collin couldn't help but look away. Eye contact was uncomfortable for him, always had been, even as a kid, some people like Cayden, or Luk, were free from that being a problem, but Rufus wasn't, and it didn't matter what form he was in. You could almost see the gears start to work in Rufus's head though as he began putting together the pieces, that Collin and Cayden weren't your everyday woodland predators. Cocking his head to the side when the other finally spoke he barked happily, wagging his tail. He shouldn't have been so happy, but he really hadn't liked the idea of Rufus thinking he was some big bad monster. Hopping up to his feet he nodded to Rufus, caught sight of his tail, chased it around in a full circle before skidding to a stop and licked the others face again, practically shaking with energy.
However as Rufus finally found the word werewolf his mood was quickly dampened. Throwing an uncertain glance to Cayden the realisation that they might get into a little trouble finally worked its way into his thick skull, though Rufus had been in their territory when he shouldn't have the rest of the pack may not see it that way. Nerves worked their way up his spine at the prospect of spending another few full moons behind bars in the cellar. Whining he tried to will Rufus to forget that word. Bad word.

Will trusted his son. The kid had never given him a reason not to; Ruf never lied, and he didn't make promises he couldn't keep. For that much, Will couldn't have been prouder of his eldest child. But, he didn't think Rufus was responsible enough to make adult decisions. Not yet. So it was only natural that he worry about his son sometimes, and when he heard of his son's plans (via the boy's Facebook page) to throw a party in the forest... on the full moon no less, he'd never worried so much in his life. His pulse picked up immensely just from thinking about it. Will had tried to stop his son from leaving, but Rufus had left the house an hour before he'd noticed the Facebook entry. He'd never loaded a gun so fast in his life.
Now with silver bullets stuffed in his pockets and a gun slung around his shoulder, Will marched through the forest. Determination and panic wore heavy on his face and seemed to age him. He was going in the right direction, that much he knew after passing the car Rufus drove up here, but every second away from his son made his heart race. Worrisome thoughts rushed him at every turn, so that by the time he heard Ruf's voice he was on the verge of crying out in anguish. This was his son, after all. And what his son was saying... he felt an intense surge of anger and nausea. So, they found him. Will made no effort of stealth as he stormed forward with gun pointed. He pointed the muzzle threateningly at the larger wolf and snapped. "Move the fuck away from my boy." His words extended into a drawn out growl that expressed nothing more than dangerous sincerity.
