Collin wasn't eating anyone, or hurting his boyfriend at all, really, which he considered an accomplishment for the guy. Cayden was busy trying to figure out how much trouble they were going to be in. Half the humans in Converse believed in werewolves. So how was it so bad that Rufus had seen them? As long as he didn't know who they were, they were still safe, right? Though with Collin dating Rufus, Cayden wasn't sure how long that was going to last. He huffed out a breath and adjusted his head on his paws slightly to watch Collin in time to see the huge black wolf look at him like he was going to fix everything right that minute. He picked his head up and intended to give Collin a shrug, but he never got the chance. Rufus had just made the connection. Cayden could see it on his face. Well, at least he didn't know what they looked like as humans. He hung onto that one thought as if it could save him. Cayden watched impassively as Rufus finished working it out. He'd spoken softly, but loud enough for werewolf ears. "You're werewolves... right?" That's when Collin decided to go nuts. It wasn't uncommon this time of the month, but Cayden wanted to bash his head into a tree. Just knock him out for a little bit. Instead, he reigned himself in and stood up, facing Rufus, ignoring the tail-chasing going on in the background. Very deliberately, he nodded his head twice. He didn't know why he was even acknowledging this human idiot who thought partying in the woods on the full moon was a good idea, but it was better than eating him. Maybe. Cayden could hear Collin stop behind him, as if he just now realized this might mean trouble. Cayden didn't think it would. Rufus didn't know who they were. It was all good. That feeling that this might turn out okay faded in an instant. He could hear someone coming, and not being too subtle about it. Not a wolf. Cayden turned and stepped forward just slightly, being the highest ranking person present. Could just be someone showing up for Rufus's party. Hopefully. Still, he kept his eyes trained in the direction all the noise was coming from, sniffing for any other information. The smell of silver seemed to lodge itself in his nose, and he growled before he could stop himself. A hunter. Great. Just what they all needed. An older guy who looked a bit like Rufus stormed out from the trees and immediately held a rifle up toward Collin. Probably because he looked meaner, not realizing that Cayden was the bigger threat. Cayden pulled his lips back over his teeth and very deliberately stepped in front of Collin. So, this was Rufus's dad, huh? Good job, Collin. Way to pick out a boyfriend. Go for one without a gun next time. Oh how he wished he could say that out loud. More than that, he wished he could tell this asshat with silver bullets that Rufus was lucky they were the ones who found him. Not for the first time, Cayden didn't like that he outranked Collin. Someone else could be the one to make sure they got out of this mess alive. |
