appearance;; Jenna has long, dark brown hair in a mass of curls. Her hair has dark pink highlights running through it, and falls around her shoulders. She usually wears black shirts and jeans, and always has on a long silver necklace she loops around her neck multiple times and sometimes uses when she’s hunting like a chain or a rope. The necklace is tough, and difficult to break. She always has a weapon besides the necklace, though usually it’s a knife in her boot more than a gun on her hip.
personality;; When left alone, Jenna can be a funny, sweet girl who loves to tell jokes and go to parties. But when her dad decided that she needed to go into the family “business”, he wouldn’t take her no for an answer. Jenna was forced into being a hunter, much to her dismay. Jenna doesn’t really understand why they have to kill werewolves if they aren’t killing anyone. She fears them greatly, especially after her mother’s death, but she doesn’t want to kill them.
Jenna wants to gain enough self-confidence to admit to her father that she doesn’t want to be a hunter. She’s afraid of him though, almost as afraid of her father as she is werewolves. When not around her father, Jenna likes to go out, go to parties and have fun. She drinks more than she should, even before she was able to buy alcohol because she wants to pretend that she’s just another normal girl, and not a hunter of some creature that isn’t even supposed to exist by the laws of nature.
family;; Raymond Black; Father, age 51, hunter; Raymond and his daughter don’t get along.
Lana Black; Mother, age 35 when killed by werewolf, hunter; Was very close with Jenna before she died.
Michael Black; Brother, age 30, human; Michael tries to protect Jenna from their father and wants to help her do what she wants, instead of what their father is making her do. He managed to get out of being a hunter, thanks to a poorly mended leg wound. He walks with a limp, and can't hunt any longer.
history;; Jenna was the second child born to Raymond and Lana Black. Her brother, Michael, was born eight years before her, and helped raise her as much as their parents did. Jenna was always close with her mother and father, but was much closer with her brother Michael. She would follow him around like a lost puppy, regardless of what he was doing, and he always protected her, maybe more than was usual. So when their mother died when Jenna was thirteen, it was Michael that distracted their suddenly abusive father. Jenna was never once struck by their father, though she was the object of his intense emotional attacks. The sweet girl found that her world turned upside-down, and she had to hide behind her brother to keep sane.
It didn’t take long for Jenna to build a wall around herself. Her brother could only take so much, she knew, and she didn’t want him to be hurt any more than he already was by their mother’s death. Raymond was determined to avenge his wife’s death. In the process, he forced his children to become hunters, when neither wanted to be one. He claimed it was the “family business”, and they had to do it or he would disown them both. Despite everything her father did, Jenna couldn’t stand to lose him too. Losing her mother was almost too much, and part of her still loves her father at the same time that she hates him.
Her father taught her how to hunt, despite her dreams of becoming an artist or a member in a band. She was good with art and music both, and even to this day uses one or the other to keep her mind intact. Jenna doesn’t like to recall the years after her mother died, and usually hides from them. Part of her is afraid that, even if she wanted to quit hunting, she would still be compelled to do it thanks to Raymond’s brainwashing.
Jenna was eighteen when she made her first kill. She had gone to visit her brother in the city where his college was located, so Michael was with her, and one of his friends from college. His name was Carson. Jenna was out with Michael and Carson, looking for a stray werewolf that had apparently killed a girl at Michael’s college. Jenna had gotten separated from the other two at some point when she was attacked out of nowhere. The werewolf had been stalking them for some time and none of them had known it, and had been waiting for Jenna to separate from Carson and Michael. Carson had been the one to find her when she’d screamed, barely holding the wolf off with the barrel of her shotgun. He’d saved her life by knocking the wolf off her long enough for her to shoot him.
Michael had found them ten minutes later, Jenna sobbing and Carson holding her in his lap and rocking her a good thirty feet away from the dead werewolf. He had nearly bitten her, that wolf, and her terror of werewolves had only heightened since that day. She stayed in the city with Michael for a few more days before going back to Converse. During those few days, she and Carson had gotten to talking, much to Michael’s annoyance. It wasn’t that Michael didn’t trust Carson with Jenna, more that he didn’t like his baby sister and his best friend getting together.
Carson and Jenna grew close over the next couple of years, starting off as friends, and then growing into lovers. Jenna was for once starting to come to peace with her life, with being a hunter thanks to Carson. Michael eventually came to grips with the relationship, and their father actually seemed happy for once since his wife died. But like everything else good in Jenna’s life, the possible worst happened.
A year ago, not long after Jenna turned twenty-one, she and Carson were out on a hunt. The two had gotten good at working together, and didn’t need to speak on a hunt, they could just use hand signals. Carson suggested that they split, the wolf was running in circles and it would be too hard to find it without splitting. She had only nodded before she split off in search of the wolf.
It didn’t take long. Jenna was focused on the trail she was following, but it didn’t take long for her to find out it was a false one. She was frustrated, they had been out for hours searching for this wolf and he or she was making false tracks to throw them off. She couldn’t really blame him. If she was being hunted, she wouldn’t have wanted to be found either. Jenna had gone back, looking for Carson to tell him what she had found. Instead, she found Carson, lying on the ground with a bite wound throbbing blood from his side.
Jenna hadn’t been able to believe it. The wolf had doubled back, attacked Carson and had fled. Jenna had helped Carson out of the forest after binding his wound the best she could. She wouldn’t believe he would turn, couldn’t believe it. She was convincing herself that he would be fine, that she just needed to get him to Michael, who had become a doctor after his leg was badly mended and he wasn't able to hunt any longer.
Her hopes died, though. Carson wasn’t going to be fine. It was only a few days after they had gotten back, but they knew Carson wasn’t human anymore. Jenna’s heart had broken, and she had left Carson in their shared apartment. She hadn’t been able to stay, but she hadn’t been able to kill him either like he had asked. She had left, and to this day, Jenna feels like she had made the right choice. She couldn’t have ever killed someone she loved, and especially not Carson.
