Hierarchies and Packs
If something has happened that has earned your character a rank change, please post here. List the current rank, the rank desired, and give a reason for the rank change. The same thing goes for a pack change.
If you would like to form a new pack, you must have at least 3 members for that pack and a name. When requesting a new pack, please list the pack's name and which characters will be members (character's full name). Affected profiles will be updated accordingly.
Alpha
The highest ranking member of the pack; the leader. The alpha's word is law. All ranks must submit to the alpha or face punishment. There may be a max of two alphas, in which case they must be a mated pair. Alphas may be succeeded in one of three ways: birthright (pack passes to eldest child), appointment (alpha names non-blood related successor), or challenge (fight for dominance).
Beta
The second in command, serving as an adviser to the alpha. All ranks must submit to the beta or face punishment. Should the alpha be incapable of fulfilling his/her duties or separated from the pack for a duration of time, the Beta steps up until the alpha is able to return to active duty or a successor is found. Betas are appointed by the alpha.
Gamma
The respected elders of the pack. Gamma are the members who have been with the pack the longest, often themselves being a minimum of 200 years old. They may be the pack's former alphas and betas, and past rank plus wisdom determine how highly a Gamma ranks. This is a title of respect rather than active duty.
Delta
Division leaders. Deltas essentially serve as the generals of the pack. They oversee security, secrecy, care-giving, education, tracking hunters, and generally keep everyone in line. They are also a good source of advice for younger/newer members. Deltas rank just below Gammas and are appointed by the alpha.
Kappa
The main body of the pack. Kappa are essentially the subordinates. Kappa are often specialized into groups that each answer to a specific Delta. Guards, hunters, teachers, and enforcers are not uncommon divisions. Within the Kappa secondary hierarchies may form depending on how successful a member is at his/her chosen specialization. All of-age werewolves hold the rank of Kappa unless otherwise appointed.
Tau
The adolescents. Tau are the children, the puppies. This rank is a mixture of born werewolves who are not yet old enough to shift and bitten werewolves who are still adjusting to the new lifestyle and learning the ways of the pack. This also includes anyone that the alpha deems overly dangerous or unpredictable. Secondary hierarchies may develop among the Tau, especially between born werewolves who will try to prove their worth through strength and bloodline.
Omega
Outcast. The Omega (there is only one) has been singled out as the lowest ranking member of the pack, ranked even below the Tau. The rank of Omega is usually earned by committing a grievous injustice to the pack, such as exposure or murder of a pack mate. Often the Omega is made an example of and suffers ridicule (and sometimes violence) at the hands/paws of all other ranks.
*Rank credits go to Nali.
