Headphones. Why was it always the headphones that went missing? River ran around her apartment trying to find the small white wires that would give her ears something to enjoy when she was out for a run. She didn't like listening to silence, even though as a hunter, she should know its safer to not be plugged into music world. She should be listening for any advancing threat that would be stalking her through the thick woods that surround Converse, South Dakota. But alas, this brunette wasn't just any human. One who was unaware of what lurked in the shadows outside of humans scary bed time stories. She knew that there were creatures that would willingly jump out and rip her throat out, if they were that savage. She has met a few that were nasty enough to threaten her like that. And she willingly told them to piss off, and if not, she had no problem putting a bullet in them.
Her innocent face lead people to think she couldn't do it, but little did they know, she was ruthless if someone was going to put her life on the line. She was raised tough, mainly by her father and brother. They taught her to be tough and not to take anyone's crap. She grew to be a little taller than most girls, standing at a full five foot eight inches. So she had that much on her, and even if someone was taller than her, she would meet them square in the eye. That seemed to intimated some people just enough to leave her alone. Or at least make threatening people rethink messing with her. She sighed as she finally found her head phones, smiling as she plugged them into her iPod that was wrapped around her arm. She went to her "Run Away" playlist and hitting play as she walked to her door, closing it tightly behind her and locking it, before dropping the key into her pocket and pulling the zipper on her jacket all the way up.
She jogged down a few flights of stairs before she set off in the direction of the woods. Her knife was hidden on her side. She always carried that, even when a gun would have been better. She started off at an even jog, getting herself warmed up so she wouldn't wear off too early in the jog. She had to keep in shape as a hunter. She couldn't ever remember meeting a fat hunter. They just couldn't do the job like one that was in shape. Plus, she was twenty two, so she had to make sure that she looked as good as she could while she was still young. Her ears were filled with music as she fell into a steady pace, running right along the forest wood line. Her brown hair was left down for now, though she felt like it was going to be pulled back very soon. As she thought this, she pushed some of her hair behind her ear, in attempt to tame it away from her face.
The longer she ran, the farther she got from her apartment and civilization. She made sure to steady her breath as her pace increased a little. A few songs have passed by on her iPod and she currently found herself listening to some old school Incubus, and a good song at that: Drive. She smiled lightly as she started to sing under her breath. She kept her blue eyes between checking the ground in front of her feet and the area in front of her. River didn't feel the need to glance behind her or to her side. Which might have been a good idea seeing as she didn't notice that she was no longer alone on her evening jog.

Iris was in the pack house, getting ready to go out on a run with another pack member to go hunting. Nobody was ready to go out though. She waited in the pack house, sitting on her bed, staring at the wall in front of her. I wish I was allowed to go out on a run, I feel like I'm in prison here when I can't go out and run.... The thought of pissing Callum scared her. She sighed and laid her head down on the bed, thinking that she might take a nap. Sleep came over her and she found herself in wolf form, hiding in her home with her sister. Her mother was in the kitchen and her father and brother were outside. Hunters shot at her brother and father and came running into the house. Screaming was heard and another shot. She could hear somebody running up the stairs and she and her sister hid under the bed. The door was being pushed on, sounded like it wouldn't stand much longer. The door was broken in and the hunters walked around the room.
Her sister ran out from under the bed and down the stairs. Iris seen it all happen, the death, the blood. It was a memory, a nightmare. She screamed in her sleep, her little form was following after the hunters who were chasing her sister. Her eyes went wide when she heard a fire and her sister fell to the ground. She wasn't in the house anymore but outside. She screamed again and woke up, crying as she was now curled in a ball. Nobody was home, she wasn't sure where everybody was but it didn't matter because she was alone. She whined, being in pain that her family was all gone. It was a few minutes later that she caught the scent of something. She stood from the bed and wiped the tears from her eyes. She'd catch it out and if it was terribly bad she would call for Callum. She walked out of her bedroom and out of the pack house. She'd travel in human form, because the scent wasn't that of a wolf, it was human.
She walked away from the pack house and started to run. A few minutes later she was hiding in the trees, watching a human coming towards her. She stayed hidden for a few minutes, seeing as the human wasn't carrying a gun. If the girl kept going forward she would find the pack house. She couldn't lose her family again, and howling would break the rule and this human would know she was a werewolf. It was a shame, Callum should have given her a cell phone, could have sent him a message. She walked in front of the human, who either would run into her or stop.

As she ran, she started to realize how random her taste in music was. The songs would change or she would simply skip them if she wasn't in the mood to listen to it, but with each skip or end of the song, it was different music. The first song started off with a violinist that she listens to who also mixes her violin with dubstep, Lindsey Stirling. She found the beats beautiful with the classic sound of a violin playing over them as the main tune. Once that song was over, it moved on to a country song that she knew, which she found herself smiling and lightly singing along. When the next song hit, she was brought away by classical piano, though she skipped that song because it wasn't exactly something one would want to run to. Actually it made her quite tired and made her want to crawl into bed and fall asleep. The next song was faster paced and was a classic rock song that she enjoyed any time of day.
Her cheeks got a little pink as her ran continued and she knew there was a light layer of sweat starting to bead on her exposed skin. River pushed through the slight burning pain in her legs as she ran up and down some slopes. She knew it was just building her endurance and making her strong. Never know when you might need to bolt and run for a long time. Especially in the line of work that she did. And it wasn't her job at the local gun store, it was her job outside of that. The family job. She never agreed with reasons her father would use as an excuse to pull the trigger, but she of course was a good child and never argued much about it. Though now that she was hunting on her own, she was able to play by her own rules and decide who would be shot and who wouldn't be. She didn't believe in raising hell amongst the werewolves just because of what they were.
She was brought out of her thoughts as someone stepped in front of her path, and that person stepped out only about a foot ahead of where she was. She could feel her blue eyes go wide as she tried to steady her pace but she knew she wouldn't be able to stop in time. So she dodged slightly to the side to keep from colliding with the figure, who she now realized was a girl. The brunette reached up once she was able to stop herself to pull her headphones out. "Woah, that was close," She said as she bent over and put her hands on her knees. She could now feel her breathing turn irregular as now she was startled on top of having been running for quite some time now. The girl didn't say anything when she stepped out but it seemed like she had seen River and thats why she had decided to step in front of the faster moving form.
She reached up and pushed her hair away from her face, taking deep breaths before straightening herself up and looking at the girl who stepped in front of her. Her hair was long and dark, and she was about six inches shorter than River. So as she stood up straight, she had to look down at the girl in front of her. She gave her a small smile, but made a mental note that the girl didn't look very friendly when she had stepped herself in front of the jogging girl. River looked around for a moment before she let her eyes fall back on the smaller female. "Kinda far into the forest wouldn't you say?" River was trying to make small conversation while getting her bearings.

Iris was watching the girl a few feet away from her as her eyes went wide and everything. It seemed that she was trying to hardest not to run into her. The human barely dodged her by going to her side. She didn't have a reaction on her face, she wasn't scared of the human running into her. It didn't look like this human was armed so to her she didn't believe her to be a hunter. She nodded her head, letting the other girl do all the talking. She liked running too, she was surprised this human would be jogging in the middle of the forest though. Instead of asking the other girl questions she just stood still thinking to herself. I can't let her get near the pack house. I can't let her find out about us. Even the innocent humans can be dangerous to us. I can't let them hurt my family. I can't let them hurt the pack. She was pulled out of her thoughts when the human shifted, now standing straight to push her hair out of her face.
The other girl was staring at her now. Of course she was shorter then the human, she would be much more dangerous in wolf form though. Seeing the human smile made Iris copy her because she didn't want the other girl to think there was something wrong with her. She watched as the other girl looked around herself and she just smelled the air. Nobody was around them, they were alone, for now. She took in a breath as the other girl spoke up again and it was time for an excuse to being out here. "Yes. I got lost. Any idea as of where we are?" If this human found out she was a werewolf Callum would be so pissed off. "Why are you out here this far? Did somebody sent you out here to find me?" She asked innocently as she looked around. She was slightly worried that this human would realize she was being played by a werewolf and might tell others, or attack her.

If there was one thing that River was good at, it was the fact that she analyzed a situation the best she could as fast as possible. She would take in surroundings, know her escape route or just take in the person in front of her. Know their body language and their facial expressions. You have to take all those things into consideration when you don't know them. Because people were unpredictable. Whether they were human, werewolves, or anything really. They could do things that no one could be prepared for at any moment. And she had been trained to pay attention to that since she was a young girl. Though she slips up from time to time, letting her guard down and being caught of guard. Last time she did that, she almost was lost from the human world and almost joined the werewolf one. Not that it would be horrible, but she was too good at acting like a human. Werewolf-ness wasn't something she could handle at the time. Though she guessed not a lot of people were ready to handle that when it happens to them.
"Yes. I got lost. Any idea as of where we are?" She felt like it was a somewhat strange question, but she kept her face as neutral as possible. The girl didn't seem like a threat yet, but you should never underestimate a person. Whether they were small, big, tall, short, ugly, pretty, smart, or dumb. Never, ever think less of them. Because once you do, thats when they would get the upper hand on you. River looked around again, know she had been running for about five songs now, which averaged out to about three minutes per song. So fifteen minutes since she started from the main road. "I'd say we are about a mile, mile and a half from the state road. Just North of it. But that could be wrong," She said with a small shrug of her shoulders. She was pretty sure she was close to being right but one could never know. She could be turned around.
"Why are you out here this far? Did somebody sent you out here to find me?" River felt like that was an odd question. She felt her eyebrows pull together as she looked at the girl in front of her with a bit of confusion. Find her? In an instant, River's mind jumped straight to one conclusion: The girl in front of her was not a human lost. But a werewolf. And of course, that made her instincts go nuts. She wanted to reach for her knife that was hidden, but she didn't. Things seemed to be okay for the moment being. But what freaked her out the most was the one thought circling in her head; what if there were other just beyond where she could see, watching her. She took a small step back, and bent down slowly to re-tie her shoe. She was trying to look around for any sign of an attack. "I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't understand. I honestly just lost track of where I was running." River stated before she stood back up. She didn't see anyone but she didn't exactly trust what she couldn't see.
"Are you in some kind of trouble that someone would be looking for you?" She inquired from the girl.

Iris wasn't sure what this girl was up to, but she didn't like her already. She just couldn't tell what was on this girl's mind. Maybe she is scared of me? She wasn't sure if that would be a good thing or not. This girl was looking around again. Maybe she is with somebody and waiting for them to show up? She didn't like it, nope not at all. She listened as the girl explained how far out they were till they reached the main road. She nodded her head, glad that the girl answered her question. Now go back that way.... She then sighed and looked away from the human. She didn't trust this girl, was making her nervous. Now she wanted answers and would use any question to find out. The girl looked confused by the question, that didn't surprise Iris at all. She didn't know that the girl had figured her out already though. So she just waited, still blocking the path that would sooner or later lead to the pack house.
Nobody else was there, it was just the two of them, for now anyway. The other girl spoke up again, giving her an answer that she wanted to hear. Just running? Why the hell are you running in a forest? You can get lost and stuff. "Oh I see. I thought you came out here because maybe somebody from town had sent you." Maybe she isn't a hunter after all, just a human that needs to go back home now. The girl's next question catch her by surprise. "Umm.... no..." She looked away, hoping that somebody from the pack would show up and back her up. She was in to deep this time, if she wasn't careful this human would find out that she wasn't a human, but a werewolf. "You were out here running?" She wanted to change the subject, get it off of her and on the other girl instead. In her mind she was trying to figure out how she could get this girl out of the forest and away from the pack house.
A thought came to her and she was going to go with it. "Do you want to race back to town?" Or where ever the place it was that you had come from? Just her luck, a few seconds later a noise was heard, that of a howl. She couldn't put her finger on just who had howled just that it was one of her fellow werewolves. Uh oh... now what? I tried getting her out.... Why couldn't he keep his big mouth shut till after I got this human out of the forest? She could hear voices coming towards them, and she was pretty sure they weren't werewolves, but humans, possible hunters. I can't stay around here..... Now I'm in danger.... A few people came out into the clearing towards them, now nervous she froze in her spot. I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm dead. The thought of running back to the pack house was out of the question, she would never put her pack members in danger just to save her own ass.
They were coming closer and closer and one of them had his gun in his hand willing to shot Iris, maybe even the other girl. Thoughts were running in her mind, she wasn't sure if this human knew those hunters or not. She continued to just stand there with them coming closer and closer.
