Amy sneezed a large clump of snow off of her muzzle, which had just politely fallen from an otherwise barren branch to land directly in her face. Damn this snow, she thought. Typically Ammy enjoyed cold weather, snow most of all. On this particular afternoon, though, she'd been wandering about since before sunrise in an attempt to find a place to rest for a while. Thus far she'd met nothing but acre upon acre of freezing-cold forest
With the moon newly waxing, her sense of smell was still completely shot and the sheer effort of keeping her wolf form was exhausting her. She could feel herself tiring. Her skin tingled in response, aching to change form. The cold was one thing if you were sporting a thick coat of fur, but something entirely different when only bare flesh. In a situation like this, she'd normally just assume human form and find an inn to camp out at, but her pack--carefully hidden, containing money and bare essentials--was miles away at her last stopping point. On paws this wouldn't have been a problem. In a bi-pedal state, sans-clothes and lacking other necessary items to fend off the elements, she'd certainly freeze, or catch pneumonia at the very least. Her only option was to find a place to bed down as soon as possible, or her problems were only just beginning.
Okay, there's got to be something around here I can hole-up in. . .
Ammy mused to herself. I don't think I can keep this up much longer. She whimpered aloud, close to panic. Her paws, which may as well have been made of stone for how heavy they felt, dragged through the snow. Her tail sagged lazily at her hindquarters; Ammy wasn't bothering to keep it out of the frozen, white mess anymore. Her shoulders slumped lazily. Less like a wolf and more like a beaten dog, she appeared completely defeated. She certainly felt defeated. Just a few more minutes; A couple-hundred more feet, she urged herself as she trudged through the wet mass. Her resilience was not in vain. Through the snow, Ammy felt something harder than earth below the soft pads of her lupine feet. Ice. She had reached the frozen lake, and from there could see a small cave through a copse of dense trees beyond the shore. For a brief few seconds as she sprinted towards the dark mouth, she had never felt more full of energy. I changed my mind, there is a god! Slowing to a stop at the entrance and remembering caution, she lifted her nose to the air to inspect her new surroundings. She bared her teeth in frustration. Can't smell shit. God damn moon! To hell with caution, she was exhausted. Who in their right mind is going to go exploring caves in this kind of weather anyway? Fuck it. Picking the warmest spot in the back of the cave, Ammy curled to the floor, bushy tail resting across her face, and went to sleep for what she assumed would be a pleasant nap. [/blockquote] WEARING: A nice thick coat of fur! Finally!! Everleigh was free of the pack house! Connie was out patrolling while Jason went into town to run errands and since there weren't a lot of others in the large home today, the little pup finally found her chance to sneak out. Of course, she knew if she got caught she would get into trouble but just the relief she felt in finally being outside, running through the snow towards her familiar, cozy little cave house, at that moment Everleigh believed it would be worth it.
It wasn't that Ever didn't like the pack. They had all been pretty nice to her, so far, and Jason was being patient with her, as was Connie but the one thing she had been forbidden to do was to go back to that cave. The little girl was normally a very obedient child, especially when it came to obeying adults. She was just the type of kid that took that kind of thing seriously. This was different, though. This was her home. This was a situation she didn't choose for herself and she was itching to get away. The pack house was too crowded, too noisy, there was too much fighting and way too many unfamiliar smells. The poor little thing was just overwhelmed. She was guessing that might be why J had forbidden her to go to the cave anymore. Maybe it was to force her to stay nearer to the pack house and to Connie's home, to force Ever to get used to her new life that much quicker. The Alpha probably figured that if he refused to let her back to her old home that she would have no choice but to get used to her new ones.
That plan was backfiring. The pup was just feeling like a fish out of water and she was suffocating. Thank goodness for all the snow. The all white little wolf was all but hidden in the fluffy white stuff as she made her way towards her old home. Of course, there were the tracks she was leaving behind her and the fact that any member of the pack could just track her down by scent...not that they would need to. Everyone knew where she would go if she ever got the chance to leave.
The pup was just coming within sight of her little cave when she thought she saw another wolf heading inside. Whining low to herself, she tucked her tail between her legs and walked slower, more cautiously. When she was at the mouth of the cave, Ever took a long sniff and, sure enough, picked up the scent of another wolf. Slowly, the pup inched inside until she was within sight of the stranger. Not knowing what to do, Everleigh sat herself down near the strange wolf and waited for her to wake up.
