Rin sat quietly in the park, swaying back and forth on the plastic seated swing that was obviously well used by its nice ‘U’ shape. Staring upwards, she watched as the stars started to poke holes against the encroaching darkness. She’d been in the park since late afternoon and had watched the sun sink below the horizon, creating a mix of pinks, oranges, and reds in the sky. It had been really quite beautiful and made her miss home and watching the sun set over the ocean.
She’d been in Converse for a little over a month now, had settled into her little shop life of owning a bakery that kept her busier than she could have imagined. She’d met quite a few colourful locals and befriended the locals that made their way into her shop almost daily now. Busy and loving it. A small smile tweaked the edge of her mouth. She had been so excited when she told her parents who, while they were proud their daughter was doing well on her own and making her way in the world, were still trying to hide their disappointment in her “ailment” and lost chances of becoming a doctor or high powered lawyer.
Twisting in her spot, she cracked her back with a bit of a sigh. One day, they would get over their feeling of failure and accept that Rin was much happier in America and on her own, doing things her way. Rin had actually found that since coming to the States from Japan, the small town life was preferable and she was thriving. She wasn’t quite accustomed to the food but she didn’t mind it (even though she still made most of her meals Japanese). She had even found the climate change welcome once she’d gotten used to it but still insisted on wearing the puffy jacket to keep up appearances for the humans.

Now that the second pack was done and gone from the town, the entire territory was his responsibility to patrol again. It wasn't that he minded but with an area twice as big as he was used to policing...well, it was taking its toll. Tonight had been quiet and his rounds hadn't taken as long as they usually did. He found himself wandering back to the park for no other reason other than that it was usually peaceful and empty. The humans didn't tend to hang around this particular area after the sun set and the alpha was looking for just a peaceful, quiet place to sit and think for a while.
But as he approached, he noted the smell of another wolf nearby. This scent wasn't familiar to him at all and, instinctively, he stood a bit straighter and walked a bit faster. His wolf was taking notice. When he got to the edge of the park, however, it was the sight of a small girl that stopped him. She looked young but not quite as young as the child he had found in the cave in the woods. This girl seemed as if she were a teenager, maybe about seventeen or eighteen. She was definitely not familiar to Jason, at all.
Not wanting to scare her off, Jason forced himself to casually shove his hands in his pockets, just to seem more relaxed than he actually was, before stepping forward. "It's peaceful here at night, isn't it?" He wasn't one to deliberately intimidate strangers. She just looked like someone who was here for the same reason that he was. She probably was just looking for a place to sit, for a while, and have a peaceful moment away from the rest of the world.

The warm winter breeze was soothing as Rin lost herself in the idea of worlds beyond Earth and she couldn't help wonder about her late ... friend, Garrett. She'd heard news of his death and while she wasn't particularly close to the man, she still felt a pang of sorrow in her chest and found herself wondering if he'd made his way into the afterlife. Then it occurred to her, were werewolves granted rebirth after they died? Or were they considered abominations by the Gods? Hmm...
The sound of boots crunching in the snow pulled the wayward girl back to reality and fought the urge to turn around. The footsteps didn't sound threatening and the smell of wolf was reassuring as well. From her time in the town she'd found that many of the wolves she'd come across were generally pretty easy going if not at least tense with her being new. For all she knew, whoever it was would just keep going after they were satisfied that she wasn't out causing trouble... not that she wouldn't mind some company of course.
Rin felt her shoulders tense a bit when the footsteps stopped and the body in her peripheral spoke about it being a nice night. She nodded and stole a glance at the vessel for the sound and forced her jaw to stay shut. What was it about this small town having so many cute guys! Gotta be a werewolf thing... Slowly letting out a breath, Rin found her voice. "It's beautiful tonight. So clear out here." She gave him a small smile.
