E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way Vivian was walking slowly through the forest, blue eyes sharp for prey. Something had spooked the deer she had been hunting earlier, but not even her wolf had been able to tell her what had spooked it. She hadn't made any noises, nor had she heard any. Maybe the deer had caught a scent that was too far away for her or the wolf to smell.
She was annoyed, to say the least. She had nearly taken the shot when the deer had bolted. She sighed. She was near her home, and knew little game would come this far. At least she had a couple rabbits she'd found in her snares that morning. It would be more than enough food for herself, so she wasn't worried. But she needed deer hide. Her shirt had a rip in it she couldn't keep patching with string. She needed to just make a new one.
There is an intruder.
Vivian froze. Her wolf only spoke to her when she missed something, and now, apparently, she was missing someone approaching her home. She slid into the underbrush, drawing her bow.
Where?
They are on the small trail. Stay sharp.
Vivian tilted her head, and heard what her wolf had. Faint footsteps, cracking twigs and rustling leaves underfoot. She lifted her bow, arrow knocked and drawn.
"Freeze or I will shoot." She called out, honestly hoping she wouldn't need to shoot anyone.

He was after something. In wolf-form, he could smell it clearly, but identifying the smell, well that was a different matter. It was human, primal, animalistic, dirty…the only conclusion Elisha could really come to was a homeless person and that was hardly worth the investigation but still -- the wolf within him insisted. ‘It’s an abandoned shack this way….’ he thought silently, grumbling both to himself and the beast – the wolf – within him.
Still, common sense and training had Eli approach cautiously. His head low, nose sniffing, ears alert and paw steps silent. He was pretty confident that no human would be aware to his coming, carelessly figuring he could do a drive by-sneak peek and be on his way, but no –
”Freeze, or I will shoot.”
He stopped – who wouldn’t? He smelled again, his golden-brown eyes narrowed. Werewolf, but something was off about her. He hadn’t much experience with werewolves, he was a loner by and by, even knowing he was dangerous and should in fact seek help, but even through his lack of experience he could sense something was different about her…something, but what?
Not liking being told what to do his curiosity faded and the wolf growled low – threats weren’t taken kindly, not on what was presumed unclaimed hunting grounds. For only the briefest of moments did he consider he might have missed signs, might have misjudged her scent (what if she was a hunter, what werewolf would shoot someone?), but it was a fleeting moment and in the next he was shifting quickly into human form.
“The fuck you will.” Bent over, kneeling, Eli inched forward hoping for a view while keep himself as invulnerable as possible considering his naked form. Emotions, mostly rage, stirred in his gut. He had a temper, he knew that, and knew that for the most part his anger was unjustified in this situation. Sure, no one went around these days (besides hunters, really) threatening to shoot someone…especially in the middle of the woods for no reason. Shit was strange. “Who are you?” Was all he could muster in response to his thoughts.

Vivian waited silently for a response, but the one she got wasn't what she was expecting. She had expected whoever it was to run, or at least try to talk her down, not curse at her. She frowned, sliding just enough so she saw who it was. She made no noise, but saw the boy was naked. She frowned again, and then smelled werewolf. Well, that would explain him being naked...
Fine. If he didn't think she'd shoot, she'd prove him wrong.
She aimed, drew the string back, and fired.
The arrow flew true, and embedded itself into a tree about a foot away from the naked boy's head.
"That was a warning shot." Vivian was not happy. A werewolf was in her territory, cursing at her and being rude. She wouldn't have shot at him if he hadn't cursed, but she supposed he wasn't thinking clearly.
"I do not want to hurt you. But you are in my territory. Please leave." She didn't want him to find her cottage. That place was hers and hers alone, and if someone found it they might try to take it. It always happened, and then she'd have to fight. She hated fighting.
As she spoke, she stepped out of the forest and onto the path, another arrow aimed at him. She stood between him and her small home, just wanting to protect it.

For a few seconds nothing happened; Eli frowned, she knew she was caught, why was she still hiding? He wasn’t just going to leave, if that’s what she was thinking. As he opened his mouth to speak again a soft breeze ruffled his hair as the twang of an arrow leaving its string was heard. She shot at him. She had actually shot! With a bow and arrow, no less. That was unusual.
“Sonofabitch. You’re crazy.” He growled. “Who goes around shooting at people with a bow and arrow! Warning shot or no, you don’t do that. Not unless threatned, and no one here was threatened but me.” He rose, taking a step forward. “You don’t’ want to hurt people, don’t shot at them.” He continued to lecture, heat rising to his face. He stopped when she stepped out onto the path with another arrow already aimed at him. He put his hands up in response and narrowed his eyes again. Now that he could see her he gave her a once over. She looked young, inexperienced, but that clearly wasn’t the case. She was in what he could only describe as ‘native garb’…animal skins and string. He shook his head. “Look, I live around here and I’ve been through here a million times. It was never claimed. It’s a run down, abandoned cottage. You can have it. Now a days we live in furnished, completed homes that aren’t a death trap. No ones’ going to want it. But there are packs here, packs that had all the land around here first and they won’t take as kindly as I have to being shot at when their land is slowly being taken over by other packs and strays…” He had managed to calm down some and paused, chewing the sides of his cheeks and he considered the situation. “You clearly aren’t from around here and obviously need to learn a few things. Like mannersHe muttered, though really, he was one to talk. He himself was a rude bastard. “I’m not going to hurt you but I’m not going to just leave. You’re dangerous and could potentially hurt someone, such as my little sister, so let’s get a few things straight. Now, I’ll ask again. Who are you?” Voice low, stern and his mind made up he simply folded his arms and waited. As riled up as he was, he was more confused and curious than anything. He’d run across some goofy werewolves over in Europe as he traveled around, but none quite like this. [/blockquote]

E v e r y b o d y hurts some days It's okay to be a f r a i d -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody h u r t s , everybody screams E v e r y b o d y feels this way
Vivian just frowned as the boy ranted at her. She ignored most of it, caring little for what he was saying. Her wolf seemed amused, sitting back in her head and watching the boy curiously from her eyes.
I do not think this one knows how to be quiet. Her wolf told her, sounding amused. Vivian snorted in response. It was rather amusing. She had a bow held on the boy, and he had the gall to lecture her. It was... Strange. People from this time were very odd indeed.
I think you are right. He is still speaking. She told her wolf. She lowered her bow, not because his lecture had gotten to her, but because she was no longer feeling threatened by him. Her wolf snorted inside her head with amusement, but was also wary. Just because the boy was lecturing her now didn't mean he might still not attack.
"You are very long-winded, pup. Are you quite finished?" She tilted her head, watching him. She even put the arrow back into the quiver on her back, a sure sign she was no longer feeling threatened. "Since you asked, though rather rudely, I am Vivian. And this is my territory. I do not want stray pups wandering down here." She didn't want anyone stealing her things. She had so few items left to her. What if she was out hunting as her wolf, and someone came and stole the bow her father had given her so long ago? She didn't think she could handle it's loss. It was the only thing she had left of that time. The only thing besides memories she had left of her family.

He watched, quietly now, as she lowered her bow and tucked away her arrow. He took it as a good sign, but her face revealed little about how she’d taken to his little rant; if anything he’d guessed she looked annoyed to indifferent but that was just a guess. If he was being honest, she made him nervous. She, so far, was different than any werewolf he’d ever encountered – scary in a calm, old-fashioned sort of way. He was left assuming she was older than she seemed and that was confirmed when she referred to him as pup.
He smiled a little having never been called that before and lowered his body back to the ground, sitting cross-legged now as the threat had passed. “Vivian? I think my grandma was named that.” Rude, but he wasn’t trying to be, but his own remark struck a chord; was she old enough to be his grandma? “Are you…older than you look?” He asked. He understood that werewolves aged differently, but to be honest, he never paid attention to it and never thought to ask how old werewolves were when he met them – for the most part they always seemed their age. In this case it would make sense, she did act super primal and strange. He tilted his own head as he considered her again. For a minute he felt like an ass going off on her the way he had. If she was an old werewolf who lived off the earth as it certainly seemed she did she likely didn’t understand what was going on. “I’m Elisha, and I’m sorry for intruding. People don’t typically live in run down houses here, so it’s usually safe to assume the land they are on is empty. You might consider marking it with signs to deter people or-“ He shrugged, slightly. “-I could even help you fix it up a little if you wanted, I’m pretty good with my hands. I fixed up a small house myself not too far from here.” Here he was, rambling again, but another idea struck him; “So, if you’re old and stuff you gotta be pretty in-tune with your wolf, huh?” Maybe she could help him. Vivian wasn't offended by his comment about his grandmother. She didn't think he was trying to be rude now, so she didn't say anything about it. But his next question made her lips twitch up as she watched him, now sitting, in the middle of the small path. "You could say that." She tilted her head, thinking. "I do not remember the year of my birth. But it was before the turn of the century." She shrugged, then paused. "But I forget... I have seen two turns of the century now." She shrugged, and sat down as well, sitting as he was, crosslegged, on the ground a dozen or so feet away from him.
She watched him, bemused, as he started talking again. The offer to help her rebuild her house was a tempting one, but what would he want for it? For her to teach him to be more in-tune with his wolf? He did mention it, so maybe that was his price? If so, it was a small one. But, could she trust him? He seemed nice enough, but she didn't know him.
Then again, she hadn't known Cayden either and he had still given her a present. She sighed. This day and age was so odd to her. She preferred to be alone, but her wolf craved company with other wolves.
"I am in tune with my wolf. I can speak with her when I wish." She watched him curiously as she decided to answer his last question instead of the others. She would get back to those, eventually. "Why would you like to know?"
He is a funny one. Her wolf sounded amused.
Aye, rude one, he is. Now hush so I may concentrate.
Her wolf seemed to laugh in her head before curling up and watching silently. Vivian blinked once, and focused again on Eli.
