You're just one shining star... Matti sat in the buzzing diner near the back entrance to the kitchen and glanced around. After so many years of living out of a suitcase and traveling the bigger cities, he felt a sort of peace in the small town of Converse South Dakota he hadn't felt in a very long time. He knew the way small town folks were, they knew everyone and everything about the residents and even though he was an outsider he had been accepted fairly. He had made quick friends with a couple of the general store cashiers, telling tales of his exploits (some true and others expanded versions of partially true events) but made sure to mind his own. The last thing he needed was to be run out of town for poking his nose where it didn't belong.
Turning his attention from the homey atmosphere to the menu in hand, he skimmed over the contents as he tried to decide what he wanted for dinner. Burger, sandwich, soup... "Hmmm..." He mused to himself, finger tapping on the table top. Setting the menu down, he nodded to himself as he figured out what he wanted and waited for the waitress. Glancing out the window, his eyebrows furrowed slightly at the giant snow flakes falling against the darkened street. Matti had no issue with snow, growing up in Colorado and spending more than his fair share outside in it. In fact he loved the snow and winter for the most part but inside he felt an ominous feeling was tied to the thick, sticky snow that was drifting down faster each moment it seemed. "Minds playing games on you already Popyk." He muttered to himself as the waitress made her way over to him for his order and to top off his coffee.
With food out of his mind for the time being, he stretched and slumped against the window, eyes straining to see any possible shadows. Matti was a nice guy to most of the people he met. Locals had taken a shine to him, or at least the few he'd met in the general store and while handing out his resume and he liked to keep his nose out places and things it didn't belong. Small town rumors were some of those things that outsiders were best to keep out of. Who's sleeping with who, who's pregnant by who and who's a freak. He snorted slightly. While he knew all small towns, and even districts in bigger cities had their theories, myths and traditions, some where more ridiculous than others in the older mans mind. Werewolves, was just off the charts.
Since he'd been in town, he'd heard more than a few people muttering about local werewolf lore and was even asked by a local werewolf hunter if Matti was a hunter himself after seeing the compact bow the man had customized himself over the years and he was... just not in the way hunters seemed to be here. Matti liked hunting big game, with the odd small game thrown in for kicks but he wasn't about to start hunting something that, in his mind, didn't exist. Sighing, he shook his head and sipped his coffee. Ah yes, the joys of small towns. How he had missed them... tagged; open. words; 546. notes; dressed casually in black

Considering they were uniquely shaped patterns of water, they hurt like hell when they attacked sensitive ares, like ones eyes. It wasn't a heavy snow, nor particularly windy, just enough to slant the falling pieces of frozen sky into the red-heads vision. She would pick a snowy weekend to come home to. Hopefully it wouldn't impede her return to the university not too far away. It wasn't a long drive, but long enough she stayed on campus to save on gas and try to trick herself that she had escaped her small home town at least for a little bit.
She had only been back for a couple hours, not even a whole day and already she was wishing she had stayed at her dorm. Her house had seemed to come even more unglued since she had left for post-secondary school, what with her little brother becoming quite the little hell raiser. Part of her felt responsible, but at the same time her parents had to have expected something like this to happen. She had been a pretty good kid, sneaking out once in awhile and partying with some of the kids her oldest brother had gone to school with but still doing well in her classes and her older brother had done well enough. Kept his nose mostly clean, even took after their dad until his unfortunate demise, so it should have been expected they'd have some issue with the youngest one who had been left to his own devices for most of his life when he wasn't being baby sat by Becca.
The yelling had been too much so she decided it was time to go see what was happening in town... a nice walk from the south side of town to the diner for something to eat since she didn't want whatever frozen pizza her family had settled for because everyone was too lazy to cook it seemed. Pushing the door open, Becca shook the snow flakes out of her hair and off her jacket. Smiling brightly at the warmth and smell of home cooking, she stepped in and away from the door, greeting one of the older waitresses by name before looking around for a place to sit. It didn't take long for her to notice the unfamiliar face in the area and cocked an eyebrow. It seemed Converse was attracting all kinds lately.
Picking a spot at the counter not far from the stranger, she sat down and placed her coat on the empty stool to her right. Ordering a Coke, she stretched her arms above her head and stole another glance at the stranger sitting in what would have been her regular booth through most of her schooling. Curiouser and curiouser.

You're just one shining star...
Getting his food, it was all Matti could do to avoid drooling all over the plate. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until the delicious burger and fries (with gravy and ketchup on the side) was placed under his nose. Maintaining some composure, he picked the loaded mass of beef, bun and assorted vegitables up and took a bite. Setting the burger back on the plate, he chewed as if he'd just gone to heaven and taken the first bite of a meal made by angels. Which, as far he was concerned, this town had become in the month or so since his arrival.
Sipping the Coke, he glanced at the door as the bell above it chimed and in walked a young little red-head who looked like she'd just walked a couple miles with her rosy cheeks. Watching her, Matti felt a sense of curiosity grow. He was pretty sure he'd met most of the locals from the small town of Converse and more than a few of the Whitebridge locals yet here was one, he wouldn't have put her past nineteen, greeting everyone like an old friend.
Lowering his head a bit, he kept his eyes on the girl as he munched on fries. He wasn't about to be labeled the creepy old man but he couldn't help feeling intrigued about who this girl was. He frowned a little when she took a seat at the counter near by and turned his focus back onto his food for the time being. His reprieve didn't last long though before he felt eyes on him and he gave a disgruntled sigh. "Can I help you, or are you just gonna stare all night?" Alright maybe that was a little rough but really, he didn't like being watched by people least of all little girls that could cause him all sorts of trouble that he wasn't looking for.
