For the last few weeks Garrett had been in the woods, running around terrified and furious. Every night sleep took far too long to come to him, and every morning he felt trapped, stuck in a form he had no understanding of, and little control over. It may not have seemed like such a big change, some people might even envy his position but he couldn't quite adapt. Simple things were suddenly difficult, he had no thumbs to build a fire, no mouth to ask for help with, using the bathroom was a whole new experience, one he could have lived comfortably without, and then there was eating. Eating was a big issue for him. What could he do here, he had fought in Iraq but that didn't make him the next grizzly Adams. He didn't know what mushrooms were okay, or where to find berries, nor had he anything to cook meat with.
Two cats, a deer, and a rabbit were all things stupid enough to cross his path that he'd killed, but ate? No. Well the deer he'd eaten some of, raw or not...he'd been starving, he had to have something. Disgust was all he felt now, not to mention the shame of it all, and hungry, really really hungry. No nothing about this was good. One night he'd had enough, he had to get out of these woods. Maybe he didn't know about the laws werewolves lived under, maybe it was the shame, or maybe he didn't want to terrify people, but he knew better than to go into town looking like this. He hadn't ran into anyone though, most of them were probably hiding from the moon or in the woods enjoying it, either way aside from an unfortunate house cat, and a lone car, he'd made it to the Whitebridge restaurants, the smell driving him forward. Famished he'd broken into one of them, but scattered when the alarms went off before he could grab anything. After some more wondering he was smart enough to aim for the back alley behind a different restaurant.
Though sorely tempted he managed not to try and break his way through into the kitchens again, instead turning his attention to the bins. Disgusting as it was, there was cooked food here, meals people hadn't finished, foods thrown out for having gone cold or being past their expiration date. Far from tasty, and some small part of him couldn't help thinking about that deer, but it was food, real and food that had been actually cooked.

Rin had spent a large part of her day trying to gain the information needed on what rules and regulations there were for opening a bakery. She had found a suitable place in Converse but wanted to make sure things were done properly. The last thing the young woman needed was to prep everything for a grand opening only to have it come crashing down and around her ears because of some missed fine print or some other little detail according to health officials. So far it seemed pretty straight forward, purchase the building and equipment, have everything inspected and ok'd by an inspector and away she went but she wasn't taking any chances.
Deciding to eat out in Whitebridge while she was in the area (as she was feeling a little lazy today after her running around), she made her way through town trying to find a place that looked like it would have some good authentic American food. If she was going to live in America, she might as well eat like one once in awhile right? Walking past a dark alley, she could hear the rustling of the bins and paused. Sniffing the air cautiously, she quirked an eyebrow at the dimly lit area before slowly venturing forth. "Hello?" Someone was there, she could smell them... it, amidst the garbage and cooking foods.

Tearing open a bag with his claws he managed to find some food untouched by much filth, the stuff which hadn't been finished and couldn't be kept any longer from the looks of it. Dragging a stale loaf from the bag he chewed on it, his taste buds reeling but anything to state his hunger, after that he found some old chips and even an overcooked burger. Dragging some of it out he found the cleanest spot there to hide and settled himself down between some bins.
He stayed hidden there for a long time, actually managing to fall asleep. After running on adrenaline and fear for so long having some food in ones system it was hard not to fall asleep. This was really rock hard bottom. From a rising marine to a terrified bum living between bins was a hell of a life change, and that's without the bite. By the time he woke up the restaurant had opened and the smell of food was starting to drive him mad again, but no one had been out back to throw anything out. The idea of waiting for rubbish sickened him but he pushed the thought away. After awhile he began to pace, back and forth, waiting for something to happen. Maybe he could make it out of here without anyone seeing him, but before he could so much as consider this course of action the thudding sound of footsteps and the call of someone caused his hackles to rise. He backed away from the voice but had no where to go, growling angrily. He didn't want to be seen like this, even by a complete stranger, the old taste of paranoia burning through him.

Standing near the entrance of the ally Rin strained to see what was going on without going to far in. With her luck it was probably some wild animal scrounging for food and while she was sure she could take almost anything on, it wasn't a theory she wanted to test. Taking a few steps into the fading light, she could see a form pacing then stop when she spoke. Oh hey look! It is an animal.
The back of her neck prickled as the growl echoed to her ears. Apparently it was an unhappy animal but it didn't smell like any she'd come across. She had been to the zoo's back home, with their imported animals and this smelled ... different. Another werewolf perhaps? "Um, I'm not here to hurt you." Rin's voice came out a lot softer than she intended and cleared her throat, taking another few steps down the ally. "I'm a friend." Were the local wolves friendly? She didn't even think about that as she stopped about three feet in from the entrance. Maybe I should shift, make them feel more comfortable...

Garrett backed away from the girl and snarled again. He wanted her to leave, he didn't know who she was, where she had come from or what she wanted.Three things he didn't know about a lot of the people he'd met lately. Backing quickly away from her as she tried to approach. It was one thing to think he was just an animal but with his size and stature it wasn't too hard to pinpoint what he was, though he was far from a local. He was hiding out here, having killed someone the very first time he'd shifted making it no longer safe for him to remain back on the family ranch. With another growl he tried to will her to leave. The last thing he wanted was to share this low point of his life, even if she was a friend, which he doubted. Though at this stage he was running out of room to doubt. He would have to trust someone eventually because this life style was killing him.
With the moon losing his hold on the local wolves he could feel pain itching across his skin. It wouldn't be long now before he returned to his human form, but he didn't know that, he wasn't familiar with any of this, nor had he any control over when he shifted or otherwise. The idea he was just mad still seemed possible, but now people had seen him, and they acted differently, not like he was mad, but almost like they understood. Could he risk it though? Trusting someone, after what happened that was one hell of an ask. Very slowly he approached her, watching her like a hawk, but mind was starting to override instinct for the first time in weeks, which was the only reason he hadn't yet attacked the poor thing. Shifting may not have been the best idea, for one it woudl scare him further, he was very new to this, and had yet to see another person shift, but besides that they were both in the middle of town, during the day, and though the alley was small, two werewolves just 'hanging out' in town couldn't look good. Not that he cared for the politics behind it, hell, he didn't even know the politics behind it, thats why he was here to begin with. [/size]

Patiently Rin waited to see what kind of reaction her actions would cause. The smell and sight of the animal indicated that she was likely not talking to a simple woodland creature which caused her skin to prickle more. She hadn't really encountered a werewolf like this... okay she hadn't really encountered a werewolf in any shape other than human form. Swallowing deeply, she focused and tried to control her breathing.
Despite the growling, she remained where she was. She didn't move forward anymore in case the creature attacked but she didn't back away either, showing she wasn't afraid and would stand her ground if needed. As the growling subsided and he finally started to move forward, Rin's breath quickened as she watched him just as wearily as he watched her. Her fingers twitched at her side as she waited. His approach wasn't threatening but that didn't mean things couldn't change for the worst if he saw fit. Clearing her throat again, she nodded her head slowly. "Wow. You're big." In the face of potential danger, always remember to comment on the size of said danger, she patted herself on the back mentally for that one.

Rin was smart not to move. He was dangerous, scared, living out of bins, and all around liable to attack someone if they ended up on the wrong side of him, and it didn't take much to put him on the defensive. Rin was the first person he'd actually approached in some time, exhaustion pulling at his eyes, the shrinking moon tugging on his skin. Snarling he stood in front of her, shoulders tense, teeth bared, ready to attack should she show the slightest sign of being a threat. They all wanted to get him, those crazy cultists in the woods, the police, one wrong move and he'd be on death row, he couldn't trust her or anyone else. The thought put his fur on end, at least until she spoke.
You could almost see the little lightbulb moment go off in his head. She was this small, delicate little thing, no older than himself, maybe even younger, and he was this...whatever he was! Garrett didn't even want to know what he was. But for the last few years he had been a marine, he fought large men with guns and bad attitudes, not run around terrifying small women who had only the misfortune of finding him. The moon and fear had screwed with his head. This wasn't him. Backing down almost immediately he took a step away from her, whining softly, a sound foreign to his ears. Shaking his head he tried to apologize but his mouth wouldn't work the way it should.

Rin had never found herself faced with an angry animal before, let alone a creature that wasn't really an animal but a larger, stronger version of a predatory animal with a human spirit. This evening however, she had stumbled upon a werewolf who appeared to be quite unhappy in their currant state. As it barred it's teeth and snarled, Rin felt an express desire to run as well as a critical voice telling her she had been stupid to walk into the darkened alley but another part of her was confident that it wasn't going to be a bad decision in the end.
When the were backed off and whined at her, Rin let out the breath she had been holding in anticipation as she waited to see what he would do. Relaxing a little, a large part of her wanted to collapse to the ground know that she was almost positive she wasn't going to be attacked but managed to stay on her feet despite a minor sway. "Well, now that we've established neither of us are out to hurt each other." She glanced around the area, "Um... sorry to interrupt... whatever it was you were doing." Was she really talking to a werewolf, knowing full well he couldn't respond in that form? Why, yes it seemed she was. "Must have lost my mind on my way to America." She muttered, shaking her head before eying the creature in front of her with a weary smile. Perhaps this was part of her evidence that she was right about her kind, they weren't all mad and angry and bloodthirsty killers.

As she spoke he backed up into a small nook between the bins that was hidden from the street, opting to keep out of sight of any passer-bys, not that it mattered now with Rin standing over him. With a low whine he glanced at his sad excuse for a meal, a burnt burger fished out of a bin. This was not a good place for him right now. With a sudden shift of his mood that came with being new to this he snarled at her. As though she had any idea she'd just hit a sore spot, but it was bad enough he was in this condition, he didn't need it pointed out to him aswell.
Tuning out most of what she said he felt an unfamiliar twinge that burned his skin and only seemed to intensify. Gritting his teeth he growled, trying to will the pain away, but it only became worse. He wanted to scream as the shrinking moon forced him to shift. He had no control over it, no idea how to fight it or give into it. In a matter of seconds he was laying naked on the ground, panting, looking over his hands like he thought he might never see them again. Slowly he pushed himself up into a sitting position and glared at Rin, he knew well this wasn't her fault, but she was there and he was annoyed. Finally he shook his head an stood up, checking that he was uninjured, he'd picked up a few bruises here and there but otherwise he was okay, unfortunately however he seemed to be lacking in anything to wear, having lost everything he owned in the woods two those two assholes when he shifted. It was amazing no one had been hurt during his transition, but slowly his human side was slipping from him, he was uncontrolled, the scar from the bite standing out clear against his forearm, an unfortunate brand that would be unlikely to ever fully heal.

Rin watched as he backed away, trying to wedge himself back between the two garbage canisters and felt a sharp stab of pity and sympathy in the pit of her stomach. She couldn't begin to imagine the difficulties he was going through. Although her family had treated her like a disease, they had never left her without. She suffered through the painful transformations, she hadn't suffered the necessary scrounging for food like this poor soul.
She wanted to open her mouth, to invite him back to her apartment where she could feed him proper food, albeit left overs and probably foreign to him but proper food nevertheless. And then it happened, in a few mere moments there was a naked man in front of her. Oh my goodness! Rin felt her face heat up as she floundered like a fish out of water. The glare he sent her way washed over her as she tried to put words together. "Oh my..." Shifting on her feet, she cast her eyes to the ground to save at least some of her modest as she cleared her throat. "I mean, hi." Yes, hi. that's exactly what she meant.

After laying on the ground for a few minutes he slowly pulled himself to his feet. He could almost hear his old drill Sargent shouting at him the get his shit together. A few scrapes pricked his elbow and knee, the ground having not been made for naked people to sleep, but all in all he had little to complain about. But the pain of shifting was a totally new sensation, as was the short high that came with it, it made him dizzy, and that's without including the mental trauma of adjusting to a body you're unfamiliar with.
Leaning a hand against the wall he stared down at himself, everything was in the right place where it should be, or at least it seemed to be, but he wasn't entirely sure he could trust his eyes. The last week was horrific and terrifying and now it was like it never happened, if only he could be sure it hadn't. Last time this happened he'd killed someone close to him, and a poor undeserving horse, but he didn't recall anything too bad this time, or so he hoped. For a moment he had completely forgotten about Rin until he heard her gasp, looking up at her he could see the small blush across her features. "Oh my" Hearing that he couldn't help but smile, one minute he wants to tear her throat out, the next he's smiling, but that had to be the best reaction from a woman seeing him naked he had heard to date. Who couldn't smile at that? Nodding to her hi he frowned again. "I've no clothes." Certainly not the smartest thing that had ever come out of his mouth, but what else do you say when you shift form in front of some woman who may or may not think your a crazy naked hobo and bring call the police ?

"Obviously." Rin's hand flew to her mouth, her blush deepening She couldn't believe she just said that. "I mean, um... yeah..." Her voice trailed off as she stared at the ground. Great, she probably just sounded like the biggest cow ever and it wasn't even her intention. Taking a few breaths, she glanced up and made sure she was looking well above waist level. She already felt rude she didn't want to seem like a pig. "I think there's a clothing place near by, I could grab something for you... if you want." Who knew, maybe he was comfortable enough to walk around the town like he was.
